Ignition Key and lock cylinder replacement 95 Escort

The last time I took my key out of the ignition, a tiny spring came out with it. Now I can't turn the key at all when I put it in. I took the cover off of the column, and all I can see that might hold in the cylinder are 2 roll pins, but I can't seem to get them out. I had someone else tell me that I will need to turn the key somehow and then push those pins in to release it, but when I look at the replacement cylinder I bought, that doesn't make any sense.

Any suggestions?

Have to buy new lock cylinder and key..I got mine online..Then had locksmith drill on side of pins you are talking about to get then out. Cost about 100.00 for locksmith and 22.00 for part online (autozone)did not have at store...

Yup (Recalls chaning ignition switch and key assembly) 120 bucks and best buy and I ended up using my hacksaw to cut the pins to get the old one off... but after it came off the car has been running fine .. ((still admire the hacksaw))

The steering lock feature on mine went the other day..just less resistance when you put the key in.Otherwise fine..Is this gonna break/jam soon??..I'ldno about the cylinder changing..I have not done this(LOL on one of these cars..but have one others..LOL..some cars..junk the car..LOL..).. so I am not 100% sure of what is involved.here .but to me? seems easier to change the whole steering column? no?..about $40 bucks Cdn WITH key etc., at local bone..
