idling problem

1999 sebring jxi conv
This problem also happens when in drive while stopped, with the brake on. the revs will go from about 450-550 while at the same time there is a 'bump' feeling in the car. also i can hear some type of click every time it bumps. someone said it might be a defective belt, and i cant feel it at all while driving....i thought it could be something wrong with the gears in the trans...its almost as if the gear is slipping a little
