for the millionth time...

I know I'm going to be asking the same question that's been asked a million times, so flame on if you're in the mood.

I have an 00' ex; D16Y6 I believe, or it oculd be a Y8, i forget; either way the question is the same. Save for the swap, or love the one i'm with?
Here are the mitigating factors:
I make crap/hour, and imports are not my main area of expertise/hobby.

About all I've done to my civic is:
replace the bulbs on the climate control and factory stereo/cd with ultrabright red LEDs (which didn't turn out as nicely as I'd hoped),

replaced a few pulleys with their aftermarket counterparts: my ex-GF was a bad driver and ended up in an accident that bent the fender into the old ones; this also left my engine with a nice whining/grinding noise, that sounds like worn out bearings...

and installed a SRI (no CAI because I lived in FL at the time: it rains all the damn time, and no $$ for header-back exhaust, so why bother).

Do I save up the 3-5k it will take to swap in a 160-170HP engine, neglecting other mods (brakes, suspension, sound, and those really awesome taillights...sarcasm), or do I sink 900 here, 2k there, into the SOHC that's in there already?

I'm curoius to see what I can get out of the SOHC, but I have neither the time, nor the skill to make this a project car, A properly done swap would save me time, cost me money, and give me more headroom; keeping my engine would probably allow me to learn more about in-depth engine tuning, as well as probably give me more headaches, and a greater feeling of satisfaction, once I get past the bolt-ons.

Any opinions (besides "get f*cked") are welcome.

sorry if that was hard to read
-beau

I say keep you engine (fix the tranny though) and add a turbo kit. You could make a turbo kit for around $1500 or buy one for $2-3G's (both w/o intercooler) and have more than 170whp out of your SOHC.

it's really up to yourself, if you want a different engine that not alot of people have, go for it. if you want to build up your SOHC, go for it. it's your decision, not ours.

thanks, I'm just trying to decide. With a fairly limited budget, I need all the advice/information I can get, so I thought I'd throw the question out there to see what people have to say.

The turbo is an idea I hadn't even considered, if the engine can take it, I think that'll be the route I choose. If anyone has any recommendations on what in particular I'll need to reinforce/replace, I'd appreciate the advice.

I hate to be one with more questions than answers, but I figured this group knows more than I do about my engine.

thanks again

Congratulations, you didn't answer ANY of his questions or offer ANY helpful advice. Thanks for posting

ANYWAYS, my stance on it is this: you have the y8 motor. there's a lot of potential in a d16 motor (esp w/ f.i.). if you got low mileage on the motor, i say go for the turbo sohc. i've seen turbo d16's pull up to 300+ horsepower. however, you have to consider the fact that you'll never reach the potential with the same mods on a b-series motor though. it's really about what you want in the long-run. look at your long-term goals before your short term ones. you'll be happier in the end and that's what matters. try googling or searching this forum for other people's setups. www.turbod16.com is also a great site to get info from other civic owners. good luck!

Re: for the millionth time...

300 Hp on a d16
id have to see what that setup is - cuz that would be nice

if you get a swap you could would have more power stock and build from that.
but it wouldn't be as hard on your wallet to mod your existine engine

if you got the $ go for the swap
