Is the AMX 390 Go Package the fastest Muscle Car?

Hey Guys,

I saw the thread started about the fastest muscle car. Good topic, but I think the answer isn't too far away.

Looks like the guys at Dream Car Garage created a Muscle Car Shootout that is airing on SPEED and they tested an AMX 390 Go Package against the bunch.

Check it out at www.dreamcargarage.com.

Do you guys think anything was left out?

Here is all the info on this test

Darn, they tested the wrong car. '70 was the first year of Dogleg ports. The SS/AMX 390 was good, but the heads weren't quite up to par...

Re: Is the AMX 390 Go Package the fastest Muscle Car?

I would believe it to be the fastest! My father has a 1970 AMX that was built by the person who built the dragon lady (unsure of name) I think he had something to do with the production of the SS AMX's, anyway the AMX is a BEAST and I am a whitness to its power!

Yeah, but the '70 has dogleg heads, and would have done better. Or better yet, had they tested the '70 Mark Donahue Javelin equipped like my Dad's - 390/T-10/3.91.....Or even a 71 Javelin AMX 401...They really woulda kicked some butt. Oh well. Guess they had to let the companies that are still in business win...

Sorry for the slow reply,

It's a Glen Green/Green interior, with a white C-stripe. It has a 390 Go-package, BW T-10 four speed, and 3.91:1 Twin-Grip rearend.

He's had it since his senior year of high school (Bought it brand new off the lot, original owner), and he's now working on restoring it. Should be a real machine when he's done. Don't see too many original Donohue's with that engine/trans combo still around.

It runs and drives, started after sitting 17 years. Just put in a lil' 2 cycle fuel down the carb, cleaned the points, and put in a new batt.

Gotta love AMC's!

I'm looking for a 70 Javelin or 68-69 Rebel SST 2 door to build up.

Yeah that car sounds like a heck of a prize, performance and image. I believe that particular model is one of the most overlooked musclecars, although it was a formidable competitor. I assume that your father is going to hang on to it. I know I would! AMC engines were tough, and had alot of nickle content in the block. With the aftermarket finally producing some quality performance parts for these motors, it becomes just as desirable as the more popular models. You wouldn't happen to have any pics cobra?
