Question Shifting question?

Hi everyone,
I just purchased a 99 Alero with 60,000 a couple of days ago. It is a 4 dr gl with the 2.4 engine. I love the car despite all the negitive things I heard and read about it. However, I do have one concern when the car warms up the shift from 1st to 2nd is much harder than when its cool, it's almost like it has a shift kit in it. That would be fine, but most times the shift is followed by a little studder or hesitation. It only seems to do this under normal driving conditions. If i the gas pedal is 3\4- to fully depressed it doesnt seem to shift hard or studder. All i did since I got it was an oil change, air filter and fuel filter. So my question is has any one had any similar problems, or is it just normal. How is it supossed to shift when warmed up? Any diganosis, thoughts or comments would be very helpful. Thanks Ron

Re: Shifting question?

Not sure what would be causing this, but it does concern me that the shifts are harder once the car is warm. Normally, the transmission shifts are harder just after starting the car.

As for the 2.4's, I have heard great things about that engine, other than the fact that it is noisy and grainy. If you look on ebaymotors.com, there are a few (or have been in the past) that are for sale with 170K miles. That tells me that they are good engines.

Re: Shifting question?

Its funny because when its cold its shifts real smooth. It is only rough from 1st to 2nd the rest of the shifts are fine. The shifting is not what is really bothering me, its the little stumble or hesitation a second after the first shift. Is it possible it could be a fuel problem and not a transmission problem?

yeah something similar is happening to me, and some repair shop guys seem to think its a tranny solenoid. I have no idea what it is, or what i does. I dont really care though, because i've been driving with in like that for 2 months or so...and just recently it doesnt kick hard anymore...it just hesistates the slightest bit. I'll prolly get the tranny checked out in winter when I garage it. Hope it helps ya.
