Question 97 cav ets off, engine light on

forum
my 97 cavalier ets off light on the dash and my engine light just came on and i can t find the problem

can someone help me out?

i want to know if it is safe to drive b/c i use it for work about 60 miles each way.

Had the same thing happen to me. I have a 96 cavalier. I let it go and didnt get it checked right away and a few weeks later I ended up having to get the head gasket replaced. Keep your eye on the coolant level. Definitly get it checked out to avoid a costly repair

Same stuff happened to me when i was messing with my air intake and forgot to hook the air sensor back up.

I had the same symptoms on my 97 Cav (2.4L, 117K miles) - the oxygen sensor had to be replaced ($190 + labor at the Chevy dealer).

Auto zone will check your codes for free to let you know what sensor caused your check engine light to come on. replace the faulty component and then have them clear the code for you
