Terrorist attacks on or before election day

I'm not sure who saw this and who didn't, but the Bush administration is kicking around the idea of postponing the election should another attack happen on or before election day. They started investigating what rights they would have to do this (none legally) and how it will be done. Doesn't this scare the hell out of anyone else? So, now we have a dictator running our country and we can't vote him out?

Its called a contingency plan. All municipalities already have a plan like that in place. Has your mayor called off an election?

Let me ask, if an attack did occur in New York and three million registered voters couldn't get to the polls what would you suggest? That they can't vote? What if New York goes to Bush by a hundred votes and you know that New York City votes overwhelmingly Democrat - do you scream about how he stole the election because those people couldn't vote? Perhaps we would here how there should have been a plan in place for just such an emergency.

The plan would have to be put into effect by congress - not the executive branch. The effect of the plan is to allow for a fair election, this year as well every subsequent one.

People like you have your minds so full of spite that you act like Chicken Little. If you want to be worried about grabs for power, read up on the UN's Sea Treaty.

Didn't congress already dioscuss this (or vote on it. I can't remember which.)and they had made a bipartisan agreement not to postpone the election due to terrorist activity In or out of the US?

So, if the election date got moved and an attack was planned for the original day, wouldn't the terrorists postpone the attack to that day also?

I blame this metality on Michael Moore. The guy is such a hypocrite. He creates a movie based on his opinon that Bush scares people into believing what he says is true and now he puts out a movie trying to scare people to believe that whatever Bush does is because he's an "evil dictator".

That would make it kind of difficult for Americans to get to the polls, now wouldn't it.

well done. When I first read the post I was like "That's not fair at all" but after thinking it through it makes sense. Postponing the election doesnt mean Bush automatically gets re-elected it just means you will have your chance to kick him out a week or month later if you choose to. Yeah the terrorists can watch CNN and see that the date has been changed, but I imagine planning a terrorist attack takes months or years to plan and moving the date back a month will make things a lot more difficult to pull of IMO

I would have to agree with a month of postponement, but maybe not a few days to a week. I agree that it would make an attack more difficult whether it was a day or a month, but the first would be nowhere near as complicated as the last.
