Flickering Lights

I have a 1998 Volkswagen Passat. Last night my alarm system went off (damn cat) - when I reset it the back inside light on the passenger side flickered for about 20 seconds then went out. I unlocked the car and reset again and it flickered again.

It did not repeat this morning - however, I'd like to know what may have caused this and if it is an omen of problems to come . . .

Try checking the position & operation of the manual switch for it. If it were a door switch problem all the interior lights would flicker or come on.
