Removing the Headrests

Does anybody know how to remove the headrests in a 1999 Crown Vic P71.

Already have the plastic covers unscrewed, just not sure what else needs to be done ...

If your wondering, I have some seat covers to put in and they require the removal of the headrest.

Any help would be great,

Thanks!

If the seat isn't dismantled, i'm not sure if you can...is it dismantled or are you just trying to take them off while they're in the car?

Let me know and i'll find out for you.

I don't think you CAN remove the ones in the front without dismantling the seat. The ones in the back are just a matter of squeezing the button on the anchor clips at the bottom and pulling them out.

As far as dismantling the seat, i can give you instructions on how to do that if you insist on removing them....just post back i'll get back to you.

Re: Removing the Headrests

I contacted the local state patrol and they were able to give instruction on how to remove them without dismanteling the seat... Thanks for all the help...

If anybody needs the trick way to get them out, let me know.

officerbill: If you know the trick to the headrests you could probably get a Nobel Prize. Please share the secret with me. I'd be much obliged.

Re: Re: Re: Removing the Headrests

#1
Unscrew the plastic covers that the base of the headrest.

#2
While sitting in the backseat, carefully pull the fabric back a bit to look down the hole. (you may need a flashlight for this)

#3
Locate a small piece of metal sticking out of the black plastic holder (end of the retainer clip) should be at the 7 or 5 o'clock position depending on which post your looking down.

#4
Get yourself a small screwdriver or pick (pick works best) and CAREFULLY pull the small piece of metel towards the 6 o'clock position while pulling on that side of the headrest. ONLY PULL IT AWAY FROM THE POST ENOUGH TO RELEASE IT!

#5
Repeat on the other post of the headrest. BUT BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO BREAK THE CLIPS. Once both posts are unlock the headrest should be out.

#6
When ready, just push the headrest back into place and the metel clips should re-lock themselves.

That's it!
