Cars with frameless doors: Like 'em or Don't Like 'em

Some may kno the frameless doors on a sedan as a 4-door coupe, but most know them by frameless doors. Do you like them? I like cars with the frameless doors. A car with them, is jsut really cool, and there's something about the frameless doors that makes them nicer from the framed doors. Don't know what they are? THey are doors on a car that have now window frame, so the windows have no frame around them when closed. THey're cool on coupes, and are needed on convertibles for the top, but are really awesome on sedans.
The Infiniti M45, my absolute favorite car has teh frameless doors. See how there's no frame for the windows?

It's on the new Mercedes CLS500, as they also say is a 4-door coupe.

The old generation Lexus ES300 had framelss doors.

I will find some more pictures.

What used to distinguish "hardtop" from "sedan" a generation or two ago. Frameless looks better, but guess which one will seal up better when they're 5-10 years old?

I don't know, which one? The frameless doors on my 14 years old car seal up fine. Frameless doors all the way...

Frameless doors do look better. But they're a pain in the ass to adjust and fit properly. So I'm gonna have to go with "they're ok".

There's one downside to the frameless doors: the fact when they're up and the door is open with the glass exposed, you'd better hope nothing crashes into it causing it to bend.

The Subi and Miata have frameless windows (kind of pointless to make a convertible with framed windows), and the Porsche doesn't. I prefer the added strength of framed windows, but in the grand scheme of things, it's not something I consider when buying a car.

That's mercedes's new mid-line car, the CLS500. I don't think it's replacing any of the current models, but the designer themselves called this car a 4-door coupe, for it's round and sleek styling of a coupe. The red one, was actually the concept version, from Mercedes's program Vision, so it was the Vision CLS. It's a very nice car, it should be out in the US around 2005 as a 2006 model I believe.

Re: Cars with frameless doors: Like 'em or Don't Like 'em

Very occasionally, Ill try to close the door behind me by the top of the window. I drive a 300zx, and when the windows are down, I just kinda make this stupid swipe above the door and loose my balance. It might be the stupidest looking thing ever. But, Id have to say its worth the occasional social blunder for the uninterupted T-tops.

i have to say on some cars they lok great but on dome that leadve that triangle left when it is wound down it looks stuffed.

and another thing you loose all the strength of the door, you cannot even lean on it

Re: Cars with frameless doors: Like 'em or Don't Like 'em

sorry i just annot think straight...

i have to say on some cars they do look good but when the window is down it leaves the triangle which makes the car look cheap.

ut some cars can pull it off by making it slide it down whenthe window is totally down (the astra convertable is a great example). Also on the jeep wrangler the doors on them are frameless but they are holded together by 2 huge hinges, this makes it nice and strong
