hey everyone, new here.. please forgive any ignorant questions.
i drive an automatic 2000 pontiac firebird. my car is starting to sound like crap. first of all, its starting to squeek and cough. the squeeking part comes from around my transmission area. one of the wheels that turns the serpentine belt makes an awful sound. i sprayed a little wd-40 on it and it goes away for a few minutes but comes back. this has been going on for a couple weeks and wanna get it taken care of. what could it be? i had the transmission flushed a day ago too. secondly, when i press on the accelerator it gives a clank clank sound and maxes almost to redline before shifting (from what i hear). what could this be? thanks to anyone with help! |

Re: 2000 firebird transmission
Concerning the tranny... If you can actually feel the clank when you hit the gas...your tranny mount might have busted...when your at a stop or slow roll...tap on the gas a few time and feel/listen for the clank as you lunge forward. If you feel it when on the lunge (mounts/cheap) if you feel it through the whole rpm range its most likely internals/expensive. It was about $80 bucks for a tranny shop to fix my mounts. I made the owner fix it before a baught my 95 formula. I doubt the pulley is related to your tranny...probably has bad bearrings??? Good luck!
ps...does it redline when you get on it or also when you moderately give it gas??? |
