Changing the battery, possibly alternator - then what ?
I'm having power issues, and going to put a new battery in my 93 grand prix tomorrow or the next day (battery has been tested and confirmed bad).
The other day on the way to work I noticed the voltage was reading low, then on the way home from work it was lowering and lowering, the lights dimmed more and more and the car became sluggish as I barely made it to my house. I am going to put in the new battery, then have the alternator tested asap and see if that is dead as well, if so, I will then take care of that. But AFTER this - I understand there is something that I need to do to keep the car running smoothly ? Years ago I put a new battery in, and the car would die in the days after that. My father doesn't remember what the people who fixed it did...somethin you have to do after putting a new battery in, to reset the car to regular. Anybody have a clue what this is ? |

Im my experience whenever I've had a altnernator/battery problems, its always both of them. Something about the deadness of one kills the other. Just replace them both and see if you have problems.

a lot of places won't warranty a altenator without a new battery. These altenators these days are made of cheap compnents. A weak/failing battery will constantly be putting excessive load on the Alt.
