AM/FM /CD Player

I would like to replace the Delco AM/FM cassette player in my 91 Limted with a Delco AM/FM/CD player. I hear that these desks can be found in a number of GM models. I wondering if it's as simple as unplugging one and plugging in the other - hopefully. I want to keep the car looking as close to factory as possible.

Thats all there is to it! As long as the connectors match up, you'll be alright.

Do you know what other makes and years of GM cars would be suitable?

I'm not too sure what years are compatible but you may find some pertinent info in the URL that was posted a couple of days ago regarding removing the dash on a '97. Great site and good general info. Check out TMAN2093's comment on 7/26.

I considered the same option as you. However, I got a 3rd party (Kenwood) receiver. It was fairly easy to install, and I bought a "GM adaptor" from the place I got the stereo. This ensured that it wired in and that it mated up pretty well cosmetically to the console and there were no awkward gaps, etc, despite the fact that the Kenwood is significantly smaller than the OEM radio that was in there.

The Kenwood works fine with the Concert Sound II system, and it has satellite radio, mp3 capability, all the bells and whistles, plus a remote that comes in handy. It gets much better reception than the Delco got.

All I'm saying is for the money and effort it costs you, maybe you would want to consider a 3rd party model that would make the console look as factory-like as possible, as you say. There are plenty of options.

I agree.
I installed a JVC deck in my 92 lesabre with a Metra install kit and harness and it looks great, I also get better reception with the JVC over the Delco. I live in Providence, Rhode Island and can now pick up most of the stations out of Boston, MA and a few out of Hartford, CT.

Thanks chconkli and cyntax01 for the advice. I will consider this option. I don't want to spend more than say $150. Any units that might fit this bill? I'd one want a removeable faceplate if I go this route.
