Looking into T-birds..

Hello, I am looking for some info on T-birds. I'm looking to replace my Daytona (POS) soon as a daily driver, and I'll probably get a thunderbird.

My questions are as follows:

What was the last year of the 5.0? (I Hate Mod Motors)
Was there ever a manual tranny offered?

That's about it for now...

Re: Looking into T-birds..

The 4.6 started in 94. I believe 93 had the 5.0 option.

The manual was only offered in supercoupe T-birds (mn12 anyway) which was a supercharged 3.8 v6.

You hate mod motors huh oh well everyone has a prefrence.

SVT, if you can find a good deal on a tbird, either 5.0 or 4.6 like i had (is wrecked) get it. They are excellent cars, very good crash ratings-i know this first hand. Honestly though, GET THE SC, with a manual 5 speed, and v6-supercharged. These cars put out over 315ftlbs at below 3000rpm's i believe. Plus the body is hot.

Re: Looking into T-birds..

But it is so easy and considerably less expensive to make a 5.0 go fast compared to a 4.6 or 3.8 SC.

Re: Looking into T-birds..

Exactly. I already know what to do and the aftermarket is so much better and cheaper for a 5.0.

I figured out that 93 was the last 5.0. No prob on the tranny, I'll probably swap in a built C-4.

Lookin' into this because I want something a little different, it was either this or a built foxbody 'Stang, and nobody has one of those, right??

Thunderbirdmuscle, nothing against your car, but I really actually don't like a lot of things about Mod motors. One of which is it reminds me of that Dodge I've got.. The best way to make power is simply throw boost at it until it can't handle it, then build the motor up and throw some more boost in. I'm a fan of NA HP, and ~3.55 inch bore blocks aren't conducive to that.

Re: Looking into T-birds..

I was just joking man. hey I love motors of all types if they pump out horsepower. One of my favorite motors is the 5.0. If I ever get the money to build a drag car that's what I am going to use, but I love forced induction. Oh I love superchargers!

Re: Looking into T-birds..

They love boost as long as the heads don't blow out a spark plug or the rotating assembly doesn't drop a rod. By no means are the modular engines as bullit proof as a 5.0 in stock form.

Re: Looking into T-birds..

Both motors have their good points and their bad points. I would still much rather have a 4.6 in my bird!
