monitoring intake temp

alright so i stumbled across an autometer catalog and found that they have a new gauge out for intake temp. not only do they have 1 guage but they have a dual guage that lets you put 1 sensor infront of your IC and one senser after it. thus allowing you to see how much of a difference your IC is making. that sounds cool but i dont think its really usefull becuase you cant really modify your FMIC anyway. i was wondering where the best place would be to throw one of these sensors. they are thing like a needle kinda(but thicker) and are a little over and inch long. where do you guys think the best spot would be to put one? after the IC for sure but not blocking the flow AT ALL because that would be stupid.

Re: monitoring intake temp

Might as well do before and after IC since you can get before the turbo with a datalogger. But you are right, what do you do with this information once you get it?

Re: monitoring intake temp

where do you think the best place to put the sensor would be? i was thinking at the far end (opposite of TB) of the intake mani pointed toward the TB so that it would be somewhat out of the way.

You could put one before the turbo and use that to see how hot the air coming in is, then you could move the intake around to find the best spot. Then you could play around with hood vents and stuff.

They do have the squirters like on the evo they blow water on the intercooler to cool it more, like for your window washer. You could get some of thouse and play with their position.

Re: monitoring intake temp

i would pit it on the elbow right before your throddle body. so you know what the temp is right before combustion.

Re: monitoring intake temp

Yeah, but the point is.. what does it matter what the gauge reads? It's not like you tune based on temperature. It's like having a windshield washer fluid gauge... not important.

Re: monitoring intake temp

true. if you had the temp sensor right infront of your TB and added co2, or Nitrous & spray into your intercooler, you could read the intake temp diffrence. your right its pointless though.

I also agree its just a noveltie (or how ever its spelled), it can be used for tuning but once every thing is in place its useless.

Re: monitoring intake temp

if you drove your car without a hood it would probably have alittle bit more hp due to temp drop. not much but still it would make a small difference. using co2 would be the only real way to lower the intake temp dramatically. i just thought the guage was neat. and ill admit it is useless unless you are using co2 or drive a n/a car.

Sweet.....I want one. No more running out of fluid in the middle of winter at 3am in the middle of nowhere.

Joe, You could make some money on this one. Just post it in the Honduh forum. I bet there are thousands of punks with nothing but disposable income just looking to be the first to have the "Joe Special Windshield Washer Fluid Gauge!!!"
