i know this isnt the firebird forum, but i have a question involving a turbo 301

well, now that i have recieved my settlement i am going to completly restore the 1980 turbo trans am that i bought a month ago. the 4.9L
engine is shot needs rebuilt, could i just drop a 305 in it and hook up the turbo? or should i just re-do the factory engine. i cant get anyone in the firebird forum to answer me when i post about the 80 turbo. they are very rare, and i think that it would be a great thing to bring this car back to life and give it a second chance in life.

Re: i know this isnt the firebird forum, but i have a question involving a turbo 301

thats what im planning on doing this car has only 22000 miles registered on the odomiter and the car was at an impound auction were it sat for 15 years.
it still has the original tires on it, the rims look like new, but the body has some surface rust in places
it will be easily restored. i only paid $1000 for it.
but i know nothing about turbo's. it might need a new turbo. wonder if they even make that kind anymore?

Im sure you can find a replacement turbo for that. It could probably be rebuilt if its not completely busted but you might wanna ask hypsi about that hes the turbo guru.

if the 305 is tpi you could hook up a turbo no problwm but if its tbi then you could have a big job ahead of you
