Re: radio will not shut off when car turned off

What year car? Is it a factory radio or after market?

If its an after market I can tell you that 12 volt ignition wire is hooked up to a constant 12v soruce not a 12v IGNITION source.

It's the factory radio. I also notice that the interior light does not always come on when I exit through the drivers door - are these two problems related ? ..is there some sort of switch on the drivers door near the hinges that controls this?

There is nothing you can do with that problem guys. You're going to have to press the "power" button on the CD player or whatever radio yo've got in there. How hard is it to press a button anyways? There's no real way around it

i'd take that back to the dealer to have them fix it. if you still have the factory head unit in there, there is no reason for it to not shut off and fixing that problem should be covered under your warranty, if it's not expired.

blexxann> That is how they made the '00 Cavalier models. If you go to a car/stereo place and have them hook it up, they will tell you the same thing. I've had a place wire mine in & they hooked it up so that I had to press the "power" button to turn the cd player off and on. They could not wire it so that when you opened the door, it would shut off. Sorry, but that's just the way they made that model of car.

My aftermarket works perfectly; however, i have my factory mounted in the trunk. Only problem i have is that the fuse for my dome light blows constantly. Sometimes it blows when i am putting the damn thing in. Almost like it has too much power going to it. Anyone know a fix for that?

Why would you have your cd player mounted in your trunk?? That's just gay.

Man, most of these problems are not problems. They are normal, like someone said earlier, how hard is it to press a button. I ask how hard is it to read your owner's manual (they have pictures in there too!)

wrong the people you are dealing with are morons. I have a few grand into my I.C.E system and My aftermarket radio stays on for X amount of time then shuts off when I open the door and its a 2001.

If its a factory radio take it to a dealer and tell them to fix it. If its an after market unit then you need to hook it up right.

As for the specific wires I really can;t tell you with out doing it myself beccause its not like they have a huge lable on them that says "use this wire"

All I do know is Something is wrong and its not "just the way it is"
