Unhappy 2001 Monte SS Engine Stalling

Check engine light comes on, the car bucks once and sometime stalls after running for about 5 minutes. Then it runs fine. Gas cap, fuel and air filter are okay.

Any thoughts? Thanks

Re: 2001 Monte SS Engine Stalling

I have a 2001 Monte SS, mine seems to be on a similar thought as yours. Except mine will do this about once every 2 weeks. I'll be stopped in traffic, it will buck like I ran outta gas, then die with the battery light coming on. Battery changed, air & gas filter changed, fuel lines cleaned out. No idea. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

cured mine

My 2000 Monte Carlo had a bad fuel pressure regulator. Also the transmission fluid on these cars needs to be changed when they buck.

Re: cured mine

Next time your cars do this if the check engine light comes on get to autozone and they will run the codes. If it comes up with cylinder ? misfire I would lay money if you replace the injector for that cylinder your problem will go away. I had this problem with a 98 grand prix I had before the 03 monte ss. But after the second injector in 2 years it had to go.(cyl 3 & 5). The 3.1 injectors were $157 a pop and plenum gaskets were around $30 through GM. Not a bad job just tedious. Hope this helps.

Re: 2001 Monte SS Engine Stalling

I had the problem where the Engine would shut off like at a traffic light or even go ing down the road. It would sputter like it was out of gas. The problem turned out to be a bad Ignition switch! Dealer changed it and all is fine.

Ignition Switch, or I'd ask how many miles do you guys have on it? Rule of thumb, after around 80k, change the fuel injectors.

The check engine light came on and lit up probelms like a pin ball machine. Lucky for warranty, they replaced oxygen sensor, crank sensor, fuel sensor and catalytic converter. I'm sure the converter didn't need to be replaced, but they changed everything to make sure they caught the problem.
