1996 Rodeo - Instrument panel lights

I am having problems with my panel lights, I just recently tried to install a CD player, my brother cut the wires from my wiring harness on my factory stero and then tried to hook up the cd player, it blew my interior lights fuse twice(which were replaced), then I realized I did not have any panel lights, my dad tried to rewire it for me and he got it work, only problem, when I turn on my headlights, my panel lights will go off. If anybody has any info please let me know, because I am getting very frustrated with this weird wiring system that these rodeos have. thanks

I just got the haynes book i can check it for a wiring diagram, if you want. But I won't be able to get it to you for a week or 2. I'm moving and my scanner is over an hour away from me until the weekend
