Question Change transmission fluid and oil NOW!

I have a 1995 Aurora with 190,000 miles. My next oil change is not supposed to be until 190,917. I was out running various errands today, and right before I came home I stopped at a deli. When I came out, my Service Engine Soon light came on. Damn, I thought. I then hit the RCL button & it said Monitored Systems Ok. I scrolled through all the systems, and my oil which was previously at 40% and my tranny fluid which was at 100% now both said change now! Anyone have any idea what gives? I think it's strange that it didn't gradually drop like it usually does. Any help would be appreciated. Also, has anyone else had any trouble with their instrument panel lights not illuminating? I can't see how fast I'm going at night! Thanks again.

Computer makes adjustments as to life of oils depending on use of car. Mine urged changing engine oil at 4000 miles instead of normal 7500 miles last winter probably because of cold weather, etc.

But your SES light didn't come on because the DIC said to change your oil more often did it?

Do yourself a favor and change only the oil. I too have a '95 (135k). I took it in when I rec'd an SES prompt. They did an injector cleaning of sorts and the dealer asked me if I wanted the tranny fluid changed too. He said it looked dirty. I suspect he did not even look but wanted to bump up my visit dollars as the injector cleaning was only $150.00. The tranny fluid change was $179.00. My tranny was running perfect, but like an idiot I said,"sure go ahead".

Once they changed that fluid all hell broke loose with the tranny. I am now $2Gs in the whole and the tranny is still not running right. When asked them what could have happened the serv mgr. said that a tranny with mileage like that should be left alone. NOW he tells me. I am in litigation trying to resolve this. DO NOT DO IT!

Ok, here we are a couple of days later, and the SES prompt has disappeared! I checked the transmission fluid, and it still looks good which it should being that the transmission was overhauled last year. The oil still looks decent as well, though it is due to be changed in another 700 miles or so. I just reset the oil and tranny on the DIC and all seems well again. Still haven't figured out what's up with the instrument panel lights being out.

I read in the manual it said "Do not put anything on or cover the dash
because the sensors may malfuntion. These sensors determine if its Daytime or night.

I think you must have misunderstood. The twilight sentinel works fine. I don't have anything covering the sensors. The dash lights just don't come on, meaning I can't see the speedometer at night. I can't see how fast I am going. All the idiot lights work though.

Since all the idiot lights work...just follow all the idiots on the highway.

Re: Change transmission fluid and oil NOW!

Anyone else have thoughts on this?
My '95 has done the exact same thing...off and on
SES light over the course of a month, then a constant SES accompanied by the sudden (and seemingly unnecessary) "change oil and tmission fluid now" warnings.
I'm told my SES is due to a faulty EGR valve.
As with SmoOve, my tmission life has ALWAYS displayed "100%" and I just recently reset the oil life after an oil change 1k miles ago.
Hmmmmm.
