turbo XS makes absolute crap (way too many bad experiences)... everything they make LEAKS, get a joe P instead. did you remove the BCS restrictor though btw?

Re: please help with bov question

First, stop boosting your car until you have this figured out.

A leaking TurboXS boost controller would cause you to run LESS boost rather than more...only at the right pressure does the the wastegate actuate, after the mbc's spring has been depressed.

Are you positive that you installed the mbc properly? Did you start with the bolt ALL the way out of the mbc assembly, then tighten it one or two turns at a time until you reached the desired boost?

What mods does your car have? You probably just need to loosen the bolt on your mbc, thereby making it easier for air to escape past the ball and spring and reach the wastegate at a lower boost level. Like I said earlier, start with the bolt ALL the way backed out, just threaded with 2-3 threads (just don't let it fall out ). You should be barely boosting (if at all) at this setting, maybe 4 psi depending on the boost controller and the spring you have. If you still boost past 15 psi with the bolt backed all the way out of the mbc, you have installed something improperly, or your mbc is faulty. Then it is time to re-check your installation based on the vfaq.com instructions. If you've done everything right, your boost controller is somehow jammed and the spring or ball is stuck and not opening properly--take/send it back and get a new one.

Hopefully you just have the bolt tightened down too much...let us know what happens.

Re: please help with bov question

When diagnosing these problems, I actually prefe to bypass the BC entirely, and run a vac line right to the WG actuator from a manifold or turbo/uicp boost source. That takes improper BC setting, BC malucfunction, and spike out of the equation. If it still goes to high, you then have to dcide if its boost spike, or boost creep, and go from there.

Im having a similar problem. Ive installed a hallman mbc and it doesnt seem to have any effect on boost. I turn it all the way out, and i run 12 psi, turn it all the way in, i run 12 psi.

When you bypass your bc, can you run your wg actuator line to the tee from your intake mani to your bov?

Btw, ive disconnected my wg actuator entirely, and I can run tons of boost (20+ psi).

Re: please help with bov question

Yes, intake manifold to WG actuator will give you WG spring pressure boost, 7 or 9psi on 2g's I believe. BOV line is a good boost source.

Thanks joe. I had another question about the bcs. When you install an aftermarket bc, you do not need to cap off the bcs do you? I just left the wire connected to avoid CEL's and left the two openings...open.

Re: please help with bov question

I don't think the BCS disconnected can cause a CEL. I believe mine is out, but I remember not being able to get it off because of a bolt, so I honestly can't remember if mine is still plugged in. The opening in the intake pipe needs to be capped, if that's what you mean. So does the turbo boost source when you use a REAL boost source for your controller.

Ya, both of those have been capped off since day 1. UPDATE: I just ran my car with the bcs completely disconnected with my actuator wired to the T in my bov line.

I ran about 10 lbs consistently. Does this mean my bcs is not working? Like I said, I have opened my bcs all the way, and im running about 11 lbs, and ive closed it all the way, and still run 11 lbs.

Ive always thought it was another boost leak. But my idle is regular even at hot temps, and I have tested for boost leaks with vfaq leak tester and found nothing. Is there any way to test your bcs? BTW, its a hallman mbc. Thanks

Re: please help with bov question

bcs and mbc are different. if you're sure that you had it open and closed at the same boost, it's broken. try a friend's MBC to see if it may be the car.

BCS.....MBC.....too many letters make me confused. O_O I called a few fellow dsm owners to see if they have any extra mbc's, no luck yet. Thanks for the help Joe.

Re: please help with bov question

BCS=boost control solenoid (generally used to refer to the stock, factory solenoid for controlling boost)

MBC=manual boost controller (Hallman, TurboXS, JoeP, take your pick ) Technically, a MBC could also be called a BCS...but for communication's sake we just use BCS to refer to the stock solenoid

Yes....I know... It was a typo, lol. Nobody has any ideas for testing a hallman mbc?

Re: please help with bov question

how i tested mine is i took the line running to the manifold off and hooked it up to my air compressor, then i took the line running to the waste gate and hooked that line up to my boost gauge... turned the pressure down to 25psi on the air compressor and turned the boost controller until it read 25psi... then i turned it back down until it read 0psi again!
