Us Motorex And Skylines Must Read

Okay no one on here knows me and thats kool. But I thought I should let you all know some information. At the moment Motorex might be lossing its contract. If you dont know what contract I will give u a hint. Even as an RI you still need a (BLANK) to do the work. Fill in the blank and you got the answer. Secondly MOTOREX NEVER CRASHED A CAR. All the information is public knowledge. Look up information on J.K Motor cars or check this out http://dms.dot.gov/search/document.c...&docketid=5507

There are pictures and everything that was tested. Now on for some real information.

All Japaness cars come with lots of DOT stuff. For instance they come with DOT glass, Seat belt restraints and so fourth. Also if you look up information on Skylines you will notice that Side impact door beams are on every skyline 94' and newer. Secondly Japaness cars are much more restrictive on emissions having higher emissions laws in Japan. The two biggest problems with the Skyline are as follows, The dash (KPH to MPH) and if you read the link above you will notice a silkscreen is used to hel in the calibration (LOL) and Headlights (needing to be repositioned), and some other minor stuff. Also if you read the NHTSA information and DOT information on the Skyline 90% of the stuff is marked confidential on whats done to the car to make it legit. Well this is the other problem that is being introduced. For instance its PUBLIC knowledged and you cant just make it confidential and soon the information on what needs to be done to a skyline will be public. That doesnt mean you can just go out buy a skyline import it on your own and then do the work that needs to be done. It has to be done by and RI.

To prove my point that Motorex didnt do the crash testing look at the NHTSA list of RI's ... Motorex is not under category 10, which is what you need to have the ability to petition a car. RB MOTORING DOES THOUGH, but they werent around in 1999 when the tests were conducted. The tests were conducted by JK

Also it might seem odd to you that Skylines from Motorex come pre upgraded with usually exhaust, intake, and suspension. Well dont you wounder how it passes the Ref when mods are done. Sure you all been to the ref befor and just an breather K&N filter wont let you get signed off.

I want to know what Motorex is charging 15k for. and Dont give me the whole import junk... It cost 5k at the MOST to import a car from Japan. I know I HAVE... Secondly Customs places a bond on the car for 150% of its worth...But how can customs value a car that has no real value in the US market.

The fact is this. Motorex quotes on their site 15k (at the least) to do the converstion. Thing is though if you call them telling them you have a skyline in the US and need it converted see what they say. I asked them a year ago and they straight said they wouldnt since they didnt know much about the cars history. Motorex needs to be put into check.

Re: Us Motorex And Skylines Must Read

This is kinda old news. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets locked.

Part of the $15k conversion cost from Motorex is just that-conversion work. They have to replace certain components of the car to bring it into compliance. Sure, it might sound simple, and you might think you can do it in your own garage. Maybe you can. Still, Motorex has to pay techs and mechanics to do that work.

They do it for a living, and Motorex is in the business of making money. All entrepreneurial ventures are. Motorex is not a charity, or a non-profit organization. They charge what they want, and people who want Skylines will pay it. The only way this will change is if someone else puts up the cash to get into the game. No one has thus far.

Re: Us Motorex And Skylines Must Read

Use the brains god gave you man! Did you even read the information that you linked too? It is very interesting and detailed. Motorex went through a great deal of effort and trouble to get the necessary red tape completed to be able to legally import the Skyline.

Of course they didn't do all the compliancing paperwork themselves, just as Ford or GM doesn't either. They hire qualified mechanical and automotive engineering companies who specialize in the field. It only makes sense to hire a contractor with a lot of experience.

Lastly, did you even read the crash test data? How much do you think it costs to run four seperate crash tests by an indipendent crash testing firm that is highly recommended by the NHTSA? All said and done Motorex was out a huge amount of cash, for completeing the most stringent of tests.

Any RI importanting a car that is easy to compliance, can get a few grand for just bringing it in to the USA and slapping some stickers on it. To compliance a Skyline after all that Motorex has been through for just $16k - $25K seems very reasonable to me.

Last you talk about public information... it's called intellectual property. Why don't you go out and do all the testing Motorex did, and then make it available to the general public out of the goodness of your heart. I am sure you would be a hero. All you need to do is scratch together the $100,000 or so and get to work.

Critics are like eunuchs in a harem: they know how it's done, they've seen it done every day, but they're unable to do it themselves. - Brendan Francis Behan

I feel for this guy cuz I thought exactly like him not so long ago.....Don't hate on him too much---hope that he hangs around long enough to learn the ropes. Maybe he will be our savior after all! Mabye he IS sitting on enough liquid assets to do everything himself and give it away for free. Everyone deserves a chance!

Say it isn't so!

Hello, I'm a newb here. So, hi.

Anyway, heres my situation. I'm in the Armed Forces here in sunny Spain. Another armed forces guy brought a 95 Skyline GT-S over from Japan and is selling it. I'm very seriously considering buying but I want to bring it to the states. I know its not street legal unless you go through Motorex.

I was reading their prices and thought good God, with all the money I [could be] spending on the Skyline I could get myself and brand new whatever and mod it to my specs. Anyway, I am heading over to the states in a year and figured I would have the Navy ship it for me. I would license it as a Race/Show car and then have it trucked to Motorex and have them convert it for me. Now you telling me they won't do conversions unless they buy the cars themselves. S O B!

Now it looks like I'm not going to buy this Skyline. Thanks Motorex! Bastards.

PS..just a quick "oh by the way". I have already emailed Motorex about me alreading owning a Skyline and having it brought to them for conversion. Just waiting for a reply.

Re: Us Motorex And Skylines Must Read

There was another problem with that tactic also, Mr. Beeblebrox....(president of the universe just got done reading the whole 5-book trilogy!)

If you get something registered as Race/Show, it can never be made street legal.
Good luck with the email---I have NEVER been responded to, and it has been 8 months since I sent them my first.

Re: Us Motorex And Skylines Must Read

Just call them---much easier.
Although I understand that in your local that might be difficult.....
There was something else I was wanting to suggest to you but can't remember now....

Yeah, I sent them the email but never heard back from them but then I decided to call them, and did. I spoke to Joe Smoe who didn't know shit about fuck and told to call back and talk to the owner, Hiro, about whatever it was I wanted to talk about. Anyway, I'll be calling Hiro tonight to get the nitty gritty.

PS... Yeah, I just re-read the trilogy not to long ago! Craziest damn book, ever!

***UPDATE, for those who care***

Well I got in touch with Motorex and ask them how much it would cost to covert a 1995 GTS. Their price for conversion is $17,000.00. Wow. Now mind you, I already own the car. The US ARMED FORCES would ship the car for free. All I needed was to get it street legal. Is $17,000.00 is a bit much or is it right on the money (no pun intended, but what-the-hell...Ha!).

**EDIT**

To the author. Motorex is more than willing to convert your Skyline. They were willing to convert mine. They didn't care about the vehicle's history. I didn't have to buy the car from them. Well, better luck to us all who wish to one day have our very Skyline.
