1980 Ford F100 Custom

I bought a 1980 Ford F100 with 105k miles on it about 2-3 weeks ago, was wondering what the least expensive way to add a little more power would be. It has a 302 in it, but I have a 460 that I would like to swap out if possible.

Sorry, but the 302 is a small block and I'm not positive but the 460 (I think) is a big block and if this is so, the trans wouldn't bolt up.

if you have a 4 speed manual you can change the bellhousing to the 370 big block series bell housing. If you have an auto, find a tranny you it would work. The 302 is not a torquy motor. But a 4-barrell, headers, and cam kit gives a 302 some peach fuz on those little nuts.

Check out Cliffordperformance.com They have lots of cool upgrades for older for small blocks. I'm looking at a triple weber intake kit myself. They've even got multiport F.I. Anyways I would sell the 460 and beef up your 302. Save on fuel and get some H.P..

Don't see anything for an engine above 300 on Cliffordperformance.com.

I think the trans may be due to be replaced or repaired soon anyway. Sounds like it's in rough shape.

Re: 1980 Ford F100

thares two ways you can go about it sence you have two motors! it also depends on just how much pep you want! thats start with the 302! its a small block and git better gas then the 460 and can be build to blow a stock 460 out of the water, you must also remmeber that the more HP you have the less gas milage you git.i have a 1980 ford pickup and i plan to keep my 302 and hop it up. a 4bbl, cam, exhaust headers are nice but youll git a real big kick out of it if you add 351 heads with chevy valvs into the mix! the poblem with this is it can be costly! now for the 460 BIG BLOCK POWER, first of is with this motor youll never want to pass a gas station. and thares not much you can do to spice it up but change every thang from stock to high performence! and youll need to change the mounts as well! its real cheap to swap a motor so if i had one thats what id do simply because its cheaper. if i had the money to spend id stick with the 302. youll defenatlly want to back eather one up with a C6 trany, small block bellhousing for the 302 and big block housing for the 460. and for good messure you might want to censider a 9 inch rearend just to be sure it will withstand the tq! thares so many combanation you can go with you just have to find out with one works for you, your price range, and what you want your truck to be able to do!
