If I understand you correctly you're saying the "check engine light" is the one that keeps coming on. One helpful piece of information to have is whether or not the light is on when you take them the car or if it has gone out. The reason this is important is that if it's on when you take them the car they should have no problem retrieving the code. If it has gone out, depending on how many times you have started the engine since it went out, the codes may or may not be in the history. There are alot of variables, too many to explain here, so take my word for it.

At any rate, as many times as you've taken it to the dealer they should have come up with something by now. It sounds to me as though the place you're going has some incompetent techs and they're working on your car using the dartboard (or maybe the coin toss) method. Maybe it's time to look for a good independent shop in your area. Your best bet is to find one that employs ASE certified technicians. Good luck.
.
.

P.S. This is the nicest, most PC way that I know of to tell you the dealership you're using apparently has a group of idiots working there.

As I thought. I take care of lots of cars that dealerships (not just Hyundai) can't or won't fix. Hyundai dealerships in my experience should install stages in their service departments because it seems as though there is alot of tap dancing that goes on.

Notice I said "it's time to look for a good independent shop in your area". Forget the dealer and go to someone who wants to repair your car correctly the first time instead of just taking your money. Or you could take two asprin and call me in the morning. LOL

Has the dealership told what the codes are? If you can post that here I might be able to help you.

It still does not do much if they have not told you specifically what the Trouble codes are. I would recommend you ask them what the codes were that the ECM displayed on the Hi-Scan Pro. Any time the Check Engine Lite is ON there is ALWAYS a Trouble code stored that will be displayed...You cannot have a Lite on and not have any trouble codes...!! If you can furnish me that I would be more than happy to help you...

Just out of curiosity, how are you going to do that? A minimum wage flunky at Autozone can hook up a code reader and determine what the DTC verbage is. It takes a bit more than just a code to diagnose what the problem is, like maybe an actual scan tool and someone with the knowledge and experience to use it. Without being able to actually look at the car replacing parts based ONLY on the DTC simply makes you a somewhat educated parts changer. I'm not questioning your knowledge or ability, I don't know you well enough for that. However if you are knowledgable you know what I'm saying is true.

As for asking what the codes are I agree with you but... it SHOULD be printed right on the repair order. We have just a little too little information here to make any good calls, unless all you want to do is get some exercise by jumping to conclusions.

Then you are fully aware that what I said is correct. It seems to me the best help you could give this poor soul would be to find out where he's having his car "fixed" and put the screws to them.

On another note, perhaps you can answer this question. One thing Hyundai does right is have the website hmaservice.com. Is there anywhere on that site (I've looked but didn't find it) or maybe another official site that has good illustrated parts breakdowns? Thanks in advance.

I cannot "put the screws" as you mention to any one..all I can do is to determine where and what the concern lies with the vehicle. Then to determine when the original concern started and what specifically was repaired at that time...If this owner would at least furnish me with that info and what the codes are now I might be able to steer him in the right direction..I donot have a "magic wand" to fix it over the forum nor do I have the capability to read minds. I can logically deduce what was wrong and what had to be checked to repair that concern. We do help the field techs over the phone thru our Tech-Line..so it is not such a deal that we take a shot in the dark to repair nor de we expect the tech to take a "shotgun" approach. There will be some techs who are renegades and donot follow the guide lines. I do feel for this owner that he has not been satisfied with the repair. YES he/she MUST take that Sonata to another dealer.
I donot want to get into any sort of a P***ing match on forums...I came in here on my own accord to check out this site and then registered so that may be I might be of some assistance as I am from the factory....evidently there are forces here and or members who don't appreciate this.
As far as the Parts Breakdowns are concerned it is a software that the dealer uses on line and requires a dealer code and password which I cannot divulge to the general public.
Still I will help ANY Hyundai owner here if they do need any assistance on the technical end......
I do appreciate the kind words you said about us having the Service Web site..we strive to enhance that part of service for the general public and I am pleased that you are using it.
If I can be of any further assistance please feel free to post....

If you haven't experienced forums before you'll find there are all sorts of people looking for that silver bullet that will cure their ills. Unfortunately they usually don't give you anywhere near enough info to work with. I guess it's tha nature of the beast.

Thanks for the info on the IPB's.

try new spark plug wires.

shot in the dark without a condom -- maybe?

it worked for my car.

new plugs too.

good luck. it seems to me that either your car is lemon or your service techs are lemons.
