factory power windows not working properly

Im no dummy when it comes to cars, i do custom mods all the time. Im just wondering if antbody else has had this problem. I believe its the window switch since in a 2003 they put the circuitry built right on the switches, you cant just say yeah 12 volts and ground it should be moving. The windows will work for about once or twice up and down, then get stuck whereever it pleases. one day it will work fine for a month than nothing for a week or an hour, than working again. voltage is fine feeding the switch box and getting voltrage at the window motors. both windows do this at different times. sometimes at the same time. this is what makes me believe this is a switch problem. Ive learned that when the windows work you get positive voltage on both wires to the motor(12 on one and like 3-6 on the other) when not working only get 12 voltson one and mili volts on the other. please help if you have seen this before.

Re: factory power windows not working properly

if the buttons make noise there working...my friend had the same prob in his 00 cavi...its the motor

take off the panel and look down and see if the motor is hanging...his screws rattled out....bad thing is...the stamped the metal to the door...get a grinder and cut a hole out around the motor...screw back in the motor(screws should be in the motor still or layin at the bottom of the door...and put the panel back on....should work

It sounds to me like the motors r bad. I work at a chevy dealer and have seen a couple of window motors do this. The motors will heat up when there bad and will want more current to run the motor, but the switch will limit this current so the wires don't melt and the window will just stop wherever for awhile then when there cool again they will work. If u decide to replace the motor urself it isn't that hard. and if u don't want to cut ur doors u can just cut the rivets out that hold the regultor in place(there is only 4) and remove the motor and regulator as one. U can get new rivets and the gun to install them at any hardware store or u can buy some nuts and bolts to replace them with, just get locking nuts so they don't come apart. It's alot better and u don't have to worry about fucking up ur door.
Here is gm's procdure for removing this.
1.Lower the window to the three quarters down position.
2.Remove the door trim panel.
3.Remove the water deflector in order to access the window regulator.
4.Remove the window to regulator nuts.
5.Push the window to the closed position and tape in place.
6.Disconne the regulator electrical connector.
7.Remove the power window regulator bolts.
8.Drill out the power window regulator rivets.
9.Remove the power window regulator from the door.

If u email me i can try and get u some pics of where everything is at or if u have any other question's feel free to ask.
