Another Saturday Night

So another saturday night come's along im bored at a friend's so I decide to go driving around the strip.

Driving around I run into the usual kid with his 3 friends and a girl driving a daddy bought 1.8T jetta, stock, auto at that. He get's next to me and rev's I see him put it back in gear and the car jerks alittle so he takes notice of my shaking head and stomps it and balls it past me. Im like whatever and I see him get over in my lane to turn around up ahead so I follow he turn's around and he fly's down the street not waiting for me im like ok so I give chase and pull up to him in 3rd and let off and he's still goin at it so im like ok your not even worth it and his friends are all smillin thinkin they are hard or whatever and I just let them go.

Drive around for another half hour and this orange 350z pulls along side me with a kid in it that lookes no older than 19 I can hear the whistle of intake and he has exhaust. Im out of nitrous so I dont think anything of it I dont think I could hang so I ignore him. He keeps jumping at me so im like what the hell.....3rd gear roll about 3k rpm and were off I jump him from the start? goto shift into 4th VROOOOOOOOOOM!!! damn I missed 4th I get it back in and gain back the half a car he pulled on me and then we shut it down due to upcoming open areas where it's easy to get spotted by a cop so I geuss it was a draw kinda. Could he not drive or....I would think he would have pulled me pretty hard.

So after that race there's acouple car's that have been watching and waiting to run next behind us. one is a 2nd gen eclipse I thought it was a gs converted turbo but it might have been a gst with the small spoiler on it. not sure of turbo trim level options. well I catch a light with him and as it turn's green were off I pull a good half car on him shift into 2nd early the tires chip and I pull even more get into third and im a good car and a half ahead. I quickly slow down and he accelerates and jumps on the highway maybe being embarassed? but after that I go home and get on the old AF boards.

sorry so long. Gives you something to do for 10 minutes.....

Ha haaaa you missed 4th gear, easiest gear to get intooo ha haaa.

It's all good, my shifter bushings are a little worn too... so every once in a while I'll go to shift into 4th and I get stuck on the gate and it won't go in. Or when I'm down shifting from 3rd to 2nd... it gets caught on the gate and won't lemme go down. This happens like, 2% of the time. 98% of the time it's gravy... just that 2% of the time is when you're racing... and need it the most.

But, Just you gotta write it off as 'shit happens' right? I do.

Good times.

I agree.

Don't worry about missing 4th gear. I was out with my ex fiance one night when i had my Stang GT demo car and was lined up with some young dork in a riced-out-but-still-stock CRX, revin his fart muffler right up.

I decided i'd put him in his place, so i reved back and waited. The light turned green and i dumped the clutch and spun the tires a little for effect. Screamin along leading him by 1/2 a car to the gear 2 and i missed it on the first throw...VROOOOM!!...so i slammed it into second (again) and punched it. I ate the guy for dinner in the end, but that was kinda embarassing considering she was sitting there with me.

Re: Another Saturday Night

Very nice kills. I actually find second easier to get into than 4th, just cause it's in a corner and you just slam it to the side and down, instead of trying to get it to go back straight instead of to you. (I'm not sure that made any sense...)

Don't feel too bad about fourth. Oh, and the 2g turbo eclipses came with small spoilers for 95-96, I think, and went to the bigger ones with the small redesign.

My honda may have less displacement than your coke bottle, but I'll race your coke bottle for $1000. Who says there's no replacement for displacement?

Re: Another Saturday Night

You always have some good race stories to tell man, and Saturday night is probably the best night of the week!

That's our drag racing night, and its always fun (even when we flat out suck like we did last night). Car ran pretty good though.

I say third is the pain in the ass gear unless you are lucky enough to have a sequential transmission.

Re: Another Saturday Night

5th is pretty shitty in a Bullet Mustang. Seems like you have to lean forward and stretch a mile to get into that gear! 1-4 is pretty easy though, and close.
