b16 turbo

I was wondering which engine would be best for building up and putting a turbo on??? i'd appreciate the opinions.. thanks Ebsk819***

I've heard that the b18a/b is a good motor to turbo with the lower compression ratio, but I remember someone on these forums just a few days ago say that the b16 is also a good motor to turbo.

Or you could swap in a d16z6/y8 and have a sohc vtec turbo. There are currently a few people on here (gta, cjz89civic) who are doing the sohc turbo...and kunundrum was doing a b16 turbo but I don't think things went quite the way they were supposed to. Also, 91civicdxdude has a mini-me swap with a turbo.

If you mean horsepower wise, i've seen sohc vtec turbos making over 200whp. I've seen b16 turbos making over 275whp. Thats not saying that just anybody can do it, its all in the tuning. For a novice, an engine with lower compression would probably be better, as there is more room for error in tuning. A higher compression engine will make more power at the same boost level than a lower compression engine, but usually cant handle higher boost levels (which seem to even out, high compression with lower boost, low compression with higher boost) A high compression engine that is turbocharged has a greater chance of detonation which kills engines.

I've seen a D16Z6 making over 500whp and B18 VTECs making making close to 600. Either is way too much for the street, so just stick to the D-series. THink about it, which engine did honda like better? The B-series has been discontinued, but the D-series lives on.

I was speaking on stock internals... but yeah.

cost for cost, you simply cannot beat a d series turbo. you can build a 200whp car for under $1000.

If you have the money, i'd say a b16 turbo would be bad ass provided you can have it tuned.

High compression + turbo + good tuning = really good set up! Thats what i'd do but make sure u find a good tuner.

i would do a h22 with turbo. build that motor you well have better power than a b or d well have. some poeple in town have that stock motor with turbo and no one can keep up

Oh god dude give up about the h22. Ppl do the swap cause they want to make a name for themselves. Even so, hes gonna have so much torque all hes gonna be doin is spinnin. So thats more work right there. Not worth the time or the money.

H22+turbo is a good set-up if you have the money and time to custom do a bunch of crap. There is a guy in my town with a 5th gen h22 turbo and is running mid-high 12's when he gets traction. If you can do it in a 4th gen, more power to you.

It will be hard enough just getting the h22 into the 4g...putting a turbo on won't be a piece of cake either. Yes it has bedn done putting a h22 into a 4g, but u dont see it too often...especially with a turbo kit.

if he dose go with a b18 he needs the b18c1 or b18c those eninges have some power to start with build off that.

Displacement is not a big issue when it comes to turbo. If hes goes all motor then yeh thats a different story. To be fast in all motor u need to squeeze every oz. in your motor.

H22 swap doesnt take much work anymore, just $$.
