Should be located in the air intake path somewhere between the air filter and the intake manifold.I tried to clean one on a '93 Grand Am 3.3 L once,But it didn't work(sensor was bad).New ones are expensive.I got a used one from a Junk yard for $40 and removed the electronics part from the housing and just replaced that part.

Re: MAF cleaning
your mass air flow sensor has thin filiments like a lightbulb that more than likely will be damaged by any kind of degreaser or aerosol spray. If you take the sensor off, and clean the screen portion with carb or brake cleaner using a snorkel tube (the little red tube attached to the side of the can) being VERY careful not to touch the filiments, you might get lucky, but more than likely, you need a new one

Re: MAF cleaning
if you 96 gt has the 3.1l engine, it does not have a MAF, it has an MAP (manifold air pressure sensor). The MAP cannot be cleaned unfortunately, so you would need a new one and they are about $80 bucks or so. It is located on the center of the motor on top on the back side of the manifold. it is a little black box with teh GM logo on the top of it. i think there is only a few screws holding it in and it should pop right off.
