idler pulley 3.8

My idler pulley arm for the serpentine belt is cracked and the spring can't hold the pulley tight. I looks like the arm itself can come off. There is a star shaped nut then the arm. Any ideas how to get the arm off so it can be replaced?

I ordered the part from NAPA including the whole arm assembly and it is factory attached to the water jacket under the alternator soe the entire deal has to be replaced. The Pulley, the arm/spring and the water jacket was all $85.00. But a big project to replace.

I only need to replace the pulley - the arm is ok. I don't think this is a big job - once I figure out how to remove the bolt!

The bolt is reverse threaded.

Unhappy

At least you know yours is about to go kaput. Mine sheared off ('98 GL) on our way home from the Pima County Fair (April 2003) and we had to be towed into Tucson.

Wow! What a bummer! Well, I heard it coming....actually, it was the A/C compressor clutch bearing that was making the noise (every 3 years it seems) but it lead me to check everything under the belt...
