Viper 791 Alarm Update

Okay, so I finally had my Viper791 installed by a shop everything works but when the hood goes off, the remote is indicating that the trunk has been breached, not the hood. So I called the shop and the guy said that the reason why that is is that both the trunk and the hood share the same line/connection. So even if the hood is breached, because there is only one line going in, it reads trunk on the remote. Is this true? Does other people's read both trunk and hood depending on which one is breached or does it only read trunk/hood? Help!?!

Re: Viper 791 Alarm Update

Hey StealthModifier, thanks for letting me know. Yeah, I tried a whole bunch of stuff and everything just kind of happened the same way. So yeah.... :o/ I was just curious though....is your hood trigger just sticking out? Because mine is in a weird position and looks ugly. I want to "put" it somewhere else. Hehe It's not too big of a deal but yeah....

WRONG! That's the problem with some of these installers/shops. Let me guess, you guys went to a big chain store right???? Anyhoo, The small 5 pin connector slot h2/3 is a gray wire. It is suppose to be hooked up separately to the hood pin switch so it will either trigger the alarm or keep the remote start from working. It is really more meant as a safety feature so it won't start with someone's hands down the motor. More than likely the installer(s) were lazy and just twisted the hood and trunk wires together to the blue wire on the main harness. I mean, why would DEI show a hood on the remote if they didn't plan to use it????

Actually no, I didn't go to a big chain store. I went to a local shop that was privately owned. Damnit....

Re: Viper 791 Alarm Update

StealthModifier, I actually meant trunk trigger, NOT hood trigger....my badd.

ponchonutty, my trunk trigger is all ugly because it's just out in the open. Is there any way to hide it?

Re: Viper 791 Alarm Update

ponchonutty, I'm looking at the Installation Guide right now and for the hood trigger, do you mean the 5-pin connector H3/2 is for the hood, not H2/3? Because H3/2 says hood but H2/3 says "Programmable Channel 4 Output." Also, if that's for the hood trigger then which one is for the trunk trigger? Because I can't find it anywhere. I thought I saw it last night but I can't find it right now. Ugh!

Re: Viper 791 Alarm Update

Okay, is the Blue H1/6 the trunk trigger? In the guide the H1/6 says it's supposed to be "multiplexed input, zone 4" but I looked in the back and it says trunk trigger so I'm assuming that's the one, right?

Re: Viper 791 Alarm Update

Whoops. Yes, the H3/2 is the trigger wire you need which is a gray wire. It should be used anyway as the safety shut down wire for the remote start. I am not sure why no one had used this. It use to be only for the remote start function but since DEI changed to these new systems, they made it for both remote start and security functions.

Slade, it all depends what kind of trigger they used. I usually use a mercury tilt switch because it is the most tried and true type of trigger. However, depending on the car I might try a magnetic or pinswitch instead.

Stealth, sometimes the installer just doesn't hook one up. Hopefully they did and hid it well. Or, maybe your car has a factory trigger that they patched into.

Re: Viper 791 Alarm Update

Hey ponchonutty, thanks for replying. I called the guy this morning and he said he'll check it out and get back to me. He told me to call him back at 4. I'm thinking he's going to end up saying that he's right and won't want to redo it.... Ugh!

So yeah, ponchonutty, if he doesn't redo it then do you think you could kinda like "walk" me through how to fix up the connection. Right now I'm kinda assuming the the hood trigger wire and the trunk trigger wire are all rowed together into the H1/6 Blue for the trunk. So do I just cut the hood trigger and roll it up with the H3/2 Blue wire and that's it? I just don't know if I could find the wires because I don't have those volt meter stuff.... Oh wait, what if it was tapped into the hood? Ugh....this is frustrating...

As fas as the trigger switch for my trunk goes, the guy used the one that came with the alarm system. It's just really ugly and just sticking out in the trunk (with a PINK connection). And yeah, our cars came with the hood trigger already so he just tapped into it I guess....so that's why Stealth doesn't see his hood trigger. He tried finding the trunk trigger without having to put one up but he said he couldn't find it. I know I have one though because with the factory alarm, if it's set and if someone opens the trunk, it goes off. He just couldn't find it I guess.....

Re: Viper 791 Alarm Update

Actually no, it's not too sensitive. I'd have to kick my tires, hit the front window once or twice for it to go off. But there was this one time when my car was parked outside and someone drove by with really loud music and probably an exhaust of some type that set it off. So I don't know.... Is yours sensitive?
