1995 cotour tranny prob.

I have a 95 contour with some transmission probs.
When I put the car in reverse it will not engage right away. If I add a little engine rev. it will clunk into gear. Any ideas what's up, is this normal? I only have 48,000. on the car.

mtx = manual transaxle

Thanks, I appreciate the quick reply.
The post kind of helped, just wondering how much money I want to put into this car.
is this a common problem, and are these problem cars? Seems like a lot of issues with them?

ya know, im not too familar with the cd4e automatic transmission used by the contour mainly because, I have the mtx-75 5 speed transmission. The contour is certainly not a problem car IMO. About the only thing that needs to be upgraded is the waterpump on the 2.5L duratec and possibly the differential in the 5 speed tranny. Other than that, its a sound car. Your best bet may be to go over on contour.org and run a quick search in the transaxle forum and see if you cant find anything more about your problem. I just spent 5 seconds searching and thats what i came up with.
