Exclamation Engine starts and goes dead

I have been having problems with my car starting lately. It will start but then immediatley the engine dies. I did a bit of research and found that I should replace my fuel filter, and some people thought my plugs an wires. So I went out and bought some from my local AutoZone. anyway so I go to change the plugs and I find oil in the chamber. My old plugs looked good, nothing cracked or anything like that. Any suggestions about how to get rid of this oil? So I continue to change the plugs and got all 4 replaced, the only problem here is the oil.

I proceed now to replace my fuel filter, I take off the vacuum chamber and can not for the life of me get the banjo loosened, when I try to turn it the entire filter rotates with me . Any suggestions here?

Thanks a million!!

Re: Engine starts and goes dead

for the oil in the spark plug chamber, if you take off the valve cover you should see o-rings that seat against the head. yours are probably the originals that came with the car, and as such are smashed as flat as possible. they cost about $3 at the dealership and take a minute to replace them all. just pull the old ones out and pop the new ones in. thats what solved the problem on my old 90 accord anways.

as for the fuel filter, the first time i replaced that on my own, it was a bitch too. just try and find some way to hold it down, but do not ruin any of the fuel lines running to it. its easy to crimp them, along with ruin the banjo bolt. admitting defeat and taking it to a shop isnt too shameful for a fuel filter, considering how sensitive those fuel lines can be.

Thanks B

I replaced the entire valve cover and rings, I think that did the trick, no more blue smoke at least.

As far as admitting defeat, NEVER, well hardly ever.
I will try to find somethign to hold it first, but I will have to rack my brain. I think I can get it done, if not I will just have to start another thread, or try to find an old one about replacing one.

Thanks again!

Use a small pipe wrench or vice grips with some teeth to assist with grip. You might have to go from under the car too. Make sure your distributor, rotor and coil are ok. Its either gas or spark!!! Yep get new valve cover gasket set and it has the o-rings. Don't go silicon as too much oil flows around and you don't want the excess in the engine

Goner!

Well, I did just that, changed the gasket and plugs, never did get that darn fuel filter changed, but I ended up selling that car to my brother-in-law dirt cheap and if he has any problems I told him we can work on it together. The problem has seemed to disappear since I changed the plugs and gasket, but that little honda is not on MY insurance anymore!!
