hot start problems o n1.4 golf

HI,

Any advice will be greatly appreciated with the following problems I'm having with the girl friends car.

After driving the car for about 10 miles it dies and I am unable to restart until it cools.

I have checked the plugs and they are not covered in soot so I do not think it is over fueling. I changed the ignition module and the car seemed to run better but the problem returned. Struggling to recreate the problem after the car was towed home I replaced the coil pack as well.

The car then cut out after 10 minutes idling and unable to restart. I removed a plug while the engine was hot and there was no spark to start with. On the 3rd attempt at turning it over I got an electric shock and the car came back to life (albeit sounding like a bag of nails).

I have cleaned up the distributor cap, contact points, rotary arm to no avail.

The car is a 94 1.4 golf Ryder (engine code ABD) and has done 80000 miles.

I have exactly the same problem. I'm taking it in for repairs soon so will let you know the verdict, the Volks place were I get it fixed said it was probably the fuel pump and something about it not fueling properly when it was hot.

or a bad temp sensor that thinks your engine is cold when its really hot?

Ended up replacing the temp sensor but to no avail. It turned out to be the distributer breaking down. This has now been replaced and all seems ok

You got me in the nick of time as i am going to put the car in tomorrow. This might save them some searchin' and me another trip....
