cheapo mods for the poor guy

all right people. I need to know from whoever can tell me. I want more power out of my 420a. Its an automatic 4 cyl. 2.0 n/t. I just want to be able to beat a couple of the guys in my club. ONe has a Mitsubishi Galant. The other has a Acura Integra. We raced the other day coming home from work and All our cars pretty much sound the same, but the Galant killed the both of us. and my friends Integra just killed me. (look at mod list below). What parts can i get for cheap to boost the HP in my car? I dont have much money to work with. I have a full time job and a full time family. (1 wife and 2 kids.) something cheap and easy to install. So next time Me and the Galant and the Integra go racing, i can pull out in front of them easily. Any Ideas for the poor tuner? let me know?

Re: cheapo mods for the poor guy

the hopeless 420a soory i hate those motors. Like someone said ur best chance for a quick little win is Nitros. HMM what year galant does ur friend have? Do u kno if he's a member of TGC or G/F? And what mods does he have cuz i raced a couple of integras n lost.

i cant believe your telling this guy to save up for a better car when he doesnt have alot of money to begin with. Any ways work with what you have then when you get tired of it you can sell it and get something else

Re: cheapo mods for the poor guy

nitrous is your best bet! for $5-600 you can get a nice 75 shot wet kit that will give you plenty of power to take atleast the integra... if i were you i would stay away from the dry kits tho, they ruin the motor thru time!

Re: cheapo mods for the poor guy

why is it every time a guy wants to fix up his non-turbo car people always tell them its not worth it and they are better off saving the money and getting a gst or gsx. A NA car can be just as fast as any forced induction car

well I hate to admit it but they are right. I had to turbo my gs to get any real power, the mods like intake, exhaust, etc. etc. are good for small gains but to give the motor a good kick in the nuts, nothin beats adding a turbo. you can get good hp out of it in its n/t state, but, not for a light wallet and you still wouldn't be in the same ball park as a turbo dsm. sad but true. save your dough, hell get a job or a second job if thats what it takes to get you where you wanna be. but don't expect to break any sound barriers with no grip. especially if you can't install stuff on your own. I have 3 mitsu 2gen cars. a 95gs/t a 96 gst and a 99gsx. when I turbo charged the gs and made it a gs/t it became much faster than my original gst simply because took my time, saved my dough, and had a lot of other mods to support the turbo well in advance. its still my favorite one to mess with because it was my 1st 4 cyl. to mod. and, I have just been in its guts more than any car I've owned. and if you have no dough, don't get nitrous. What are you gonna do when car don't go no mo (broken) but has that shinny bottle where all your money went? also with low funds you should quit thinking about mods and start thinking about maintaining what you got, until you can afford the big toys.

You dont always have to add a turbo to be fast. You could up the compression, get longer rods, bore the motor 20 over, get the vavletrian redone, with a ported head and youll be just as fast as any turbo car if not faster. Alll this wil cost less than buying a turbocar and youll be faster

Re: cheapo mods for the poor guy

if he doesn't do his own work (head). it'll still come out to be very expensive having paying labor for rods, piston rebuild or what not. but i see what you're saying. it's just doing those mods on our little 4 cylinder car doesn't really yield out all that much power is what they're saying.

The parts alone will cost him 1500 and labor will not be that much if he takes it to a shop that doesnt jack him

Um...can anyone telll me more about this stuff? I don't know crap but I want to.

Also, I have a 92 GS stock and I'm curious what first mod will get me fastest and what will get me loudest. I'm talking most decibel and HP gains respectively. Turbo is not in the picture yet. Oh yeah, and fairly simple since I will continue to know squat about cars till I start classes in the fall.

I don't know what to tell the guy with the 420a. I freaked out the other day when I wasn't sure what engine I had.
