The School System
BeforeI begin it is 4:22AM and I am 14 years old, so with put aside.
Here is what i have to say, there are major flaws in the school system of which the students of the United States of America are being brought up upon. One of the worst and most horrid to myself is the fact of the form of math of which they are exposing us to. They are doing more than feding us information to simply memorize and store in th eback of our brains until we need it again. Now what they need to do is simply teach us logic. It would not be that hard to teach and it will help learn reasoning and how to be able to use our brains to do something useful than just storage. Next on the list of problems is what they are showing us Wolrd History/Geography/Civics/ or what ever you wish to call it. They are giving us more and more facts that will simply be put in storage. When what they should be showing us, instead of the many pointless wars that have happened, how to be leaders. How to take control, maintain control, and how to go about doing them in the most effective and efficient ways possivle to better benifit all those around you. Well, this is going on very long. Next up is this useless class that they force you to take, Grammar. I can understand teaching us how to comprehend what we percieve going on around us in the world that is great. But to sit there and tell us that one day we will have to sit there and pick apart a sentence and lie to us to make us do it, that is wrong and completely useless. Also they are teaching us how to come to conclusons and find the meaning of thing simply by what is around it, that is genius. It is funny, they tell you that what they are teaching you is English, when it is in fact nothing more than a bastardized version of the language that doesn't even follow the rules that you are forced to learn. Hey, it is time for science. Eh, it's cool they at lest teachyou something in thsis class. How to be organized simply by classiffing be taits of similarities or even some absurd catagory such as chemicals not to mix together.(Don't make this catagory, something bad will happen, first hand expirence.) They also teach you what makes up everything around you from the smallest grain of sand to the largest mountain, it is all atoms. Also I believe they should bring back aprenticeships. These at the very least teaches you a trade that you can either take with you or continue in use and further where you originaly acquired it. Along with teaching a person discipline, work ethic, and the effect that a job can have on your life and the lives that you affect. Well, that is all for now. Read it if you will, scrollit if you won't. Have a good day, This is Speed Racer and it is now 4:50 time for me turn it over to the groovy sounds of the soul playing with your mind while you sleep.

Re: The School System
stopped reading after the second line..spend a few more years in school and you start to pick up on why theyre teaching you all this. because your a male at 14 (hopeing your not homoexual) this should be important, when you grow up girls are impressed with people who are smart. at least the ones who dropped out to be strippers. (no offense to strippers)

Re: The School System
I'm not gonna read that huge blob of information... all I will say is that xtreme has a point that as you get older you understand why they teach you some things...
although I will also say a lot of things in the school system are flawed oh, and college is over rated so don't go(unless your wanna be like a doctor or lawyer)

Re: The School System
I actually read the whole post. Speed, you are getting ahead of yourself. You are still learning the basics right now. It's like the foundation of a building, you are learning fundamental knowledge, which will be very handy in the future.
College and university is where they mostly teach you the tools required to think and function in an intellegent and effective way. But these tools are based on what you are learning now. Be grateful you have the opportunity to learn all this now. The world has far too many astoundingly ignorant people. Just don't become one of them. |

Re: The School System
Logic is something you have to teach yourself.
My only problem with History, is that I had to learn about WWII and the holocaust EVERY F'N year from fourth grade through tenth grade! To the point were I almost didn't give damn about it anymore. There's more to history than Nazis you know! We didn't even discuss Japan's role ever, except for the fact that they bombed Pearl Harbour, and that we blew them up with Atom Bombs. Anyway, school is basically a combination of forced labour with no actual point, and a daycare service paid for by the government. If you want to learn, go to the library, and educate yourself - one of the few practical things you've learned from school is how to read, after that it's all downhill until college. Do yourself a favour and READ.

why pay to learn a bunch of stuff when you can read about it yourself? then you only have to do what your interested in or what you need... half the crap you get is pointless but you still have to pay thousands of dollars for it... college isn't for everyone, and I'm deffinately not everyone

Soyo, have you even been to college? If not, then why advise against it? I had a career before college (office clerk and auto mechanic) and a career after college/university. Trust me, the career after college is much better. If one is reasonably bright, one can choose a rewarding career path which will give you more money, more financial freedom and more career options than without. There are throusands of potential careers that are eliminated from your future without a college education. |

Re: The School System
PAce yourself. Speed racer you are racing, before the race even begins. School sucks for some, but for others it is great.
College is for some and it is not. As you move on in years, you will see why things are the way they are. Then, it is up to you to decide what is useful and what is not. That little piece of paper makes a difference, so get it. Even if it is just paper..... Everything revolves around politics, so learn the basics of the game, then move on.. |

Re: The School System
As for college, I guess it's really isn't for everyone...but I urge people to give it a try anyways.
As for learning everything on your own without getting a formal college education: it's nice if you can do it, but if you want a job in whatever you studied, many places are gonna want to see that little piece of paper the colleges give you...a degree. As for the information you learn in high school...you'll use more of it than you think after you graduate. |

The things you describe, do lead to a purpose. Have faith in the system, it's all they have. Where i agree is in much of the mathematics. 4 years ago when i was in high school i showed my Grandfather (a well educated retired man) my mathematics homework. What i was doing there in math class, my Grandfather had not seen until his 3rd year of physics in college. Do they fill your head with mindless information, well to be perfectly honest most of the time they are. But the reason it's mindless, is because most people only will use 25% of it in their chosen career. The system wants to give the biggest, best base of all-round everything so you have a heads-up as to how it ALL works. So despite the fact that you probably won't use 75% of it again, wether you go to college or go to the work force, it'll be there. I'm approaching my 3rd year of college, i've not looked at Permutations or Combinations since high school. I absolutely hated doing them, but i'm now actually using those basic formulas in Statistical Analysis as part of my business and marketing degree. "...there is a time to every purpose under heaven..." In summary, respect the system because you'll understand once it's over and done with why you learned the 'useless' crap you did. I thought it was quite useless myself, but it's all coming back. It sounds like mindless jargon i know, but take the free advice of a man who's not much further ahead of you, that it DOES end up making sense. Good luck to you.

4:50-4:22=28 minutes. I could have written a three page paper in the amount of time it took you to write that post because I stuck it out through school and although I never stopped complaining I never quit.

Re: The School System
I just graduated from high school and I hated all of my classes. Honestly the only reason I went to a single day of my senior year was to socialize. The thing that I'm noticing is that I'm starting to use some of the things I learned in 8th grade at work. It's really sad that an 8th grader could to my job, but atleast it looks good for the store to have somone a little older doing it. Speed Racer-I can totally see where you're coming from school does suck for the most part. But just try to make the most of that little part that doesn't suck. Also try and pick some classes that interest you. I took some classes as a sophmore that I just found out yesterday counted as college credit so I have to do less work in college.
