ruff idle

My baby is a '92 and it is in terrific mechanical shape, but it idles a little hard, jerky, ruff, loud, etc... is there anything to significantly calm this down for little cash? If not, what major things can be done?

Thank you.

Re: ruff idle

Have you tried changing the plug and wires? When's the last time your fuel filter was changed?

Re: ruff idle

Fuel filter is probabily not the cause here. Even if 50% blocked it will idle fine, won't run very well on the road though. Idle on cars can be affected by:
1. A dirty/sticky IAC valve. Cheap repair- remove and clean with carb cleaner. also clean hole.
2. A dirty fuel injector. Cheap repair-sometimes can be removed and cleaned with carb cleaner.
3. Vacuum leak-find and replace hose or gasket.
4. Replace plugs. cost 4$ or so.
5. Wires could be helpful. Cost under $20

There are other things but these are the cheapest and most common I could think of. Good Luck.
