Le Mans Contest entry: 917K '71 LM Overall

This is Fujimi's recent release of the overall winner of the 1971 24 Hours of Le Mans which is a curbside kit.

Build pics to follow...

Technically if you look at step 20 on page 5, it is not a full engine. They only give you a top section and a bottom section but nuthin in between the two. Looks like a fine line though.

Re: Le Mans Contest entry: 917K '71 LM Overall

Being a curbside entrant myself and having seen bvia's work before I would definitely say that this is a full detailed build!!!

Just kidding, I honestly would say this is a curbside kit with only having two engine pieces!!!, but, it looks like a really nice kit, can't wait to see it built up. Personally I love the Martini livery and I'm sure you will do this one a lot of justice.

I'd say curbside, like the Fujimi Ford GTs. The amount of engine given is only enough to look right with the body on. It's like the 'sump' plates that Tamiya put in their curbsiders.

Entries are stacking up, we're already into double figures. Very nice choice Bill. Do you already have this kit? I was wondeing if Fujimi re-tooled the proper concave rear deck or just added fins to the earlier kit?

Just want to let everyone interested in an engine for the 917 kits that and engine kit will soon be available from the maker of the ford gt engine, Historic Racing Minatures in the USA. Their products are some of the finest resin in the world. It will also include the oil tank and other engine bay details.

Island Collectibles/Hobbies or something or other will be offering the engine. I didn't really pay too much attn. as I prefer curbside.

Do a google search and I'm sure it'll turn up...

Phil,
I've got the kit and sincve I know so little about the 71 917K, i have no idea if it's been corrected or not. I'll post some photos tonite (along with my almost completed 97 Evo and my latest, newest project...;-)>..)

and we can all decide...but I seriously doubt they retooled...

So far I've done/decided on the following;

1. Removed the parts not used on the '71 model from the sprues and bagged them.

2. Began fairing in the overhead glass opening, the small twin NACA ducts on the upper engine cover and the tail fins.

3. Split the lower front into 2 (to facilitate a better fit) and glued and began fairing in those peices.

4. Contacted Scale Race Cars and had David hold me the S27 detail set (mainly for the etched pantograph wiper, seat belt parts and tire stencils).

5. I'll be using Tamiya white primer, TS-26 Pure White and the Fujimi decals for the body and a combination of Tamiya, Testors, Model Master and Metalizers for the chassis/interior.

That's about it!!

Bill
