Question Regulator replacement

I replaced the drivers side doors on my sons 92 Taurus. The doors we recieved from the local yard had electric windows. The Taurus has manual windows. I thought that I could swap out the regulators, but a friend of mine says it can't be done ( He's never done it). Can it be done?

Re: Regulator replacement

MOst vehicles i see it can be done. Thier designed from the factury to be universal. One thing though is the hole for the crank and being carefull with the glass. I had a car where the manual ones died so i replaced them with power units since thier was only a 10buck difference plus the switch and wiring which i had laying around.

Thanks for the info, I thought that in todays world most doors are stamped. I did think of making the electric ones work (ie buying the other side) but the required wiring isn't on this car ( 92 Taurus L). As for being a Ford, my wife is the only one left with a GM, my other 2 boys have Mustang GTs and I have a Ranger. The only problem is the third one thinks that he should have a Mustang, but for a first car, I'll fix this one up so that if he screws it up it won't hurt the pocketbook. Overall I like the Ford product, so I guess I'll keep you guys in business for awhile. Thanks again!

Re: Regulator replacement

Thanks for keeping guys like me from going home hungry too. I drive one because i work on them everyday which makes it easy for me to fix. I actually bought the Mercury Sable LS because i whanted a more luxury car. I have had alot of gms in the past and thier a pain to work on unless u know exactly how to do the repair anyway enough ford gm bashing. Hope it all works out.
