the higher octan more hp.. my car runs like shit on 89 but when i put 93 the car hull ass.. its some thing about higher flash points ect.. blah blah blah dont feel like looking it up. google is your friend.. all i know is my car is quicker with 93 then 89.. and 93 gives better gass milage..

Re: does wut kinda gas u use matter?

i gotta story for you. i took my moms car in for a emmisions test, she failed, code was something about the fuel bieng burned was bad and corupting the engine also her check engine light ahd been on for about 4 months. i went and asked around for help and they all just said "get a diagnostics test"
well i put 2 and 2 together and filled up my moms tank with the highest grade premium and the check engine light went off immediately, took it back 2 days later and she passed.
isn't that a daisey

actually your car will only perform better using a higher level of octane opposed to a low level IF your engine is supposed to have a higher level of octane...for example...if your car says premium fuel only or a certain octance rating usually 91 or 93 it will perform better with premium than regular because the engine is designed to run on higher octane gas...BUT if your car says regular like 87 or 89 octane putting 93 octane gas wont make a bit of difference...the story about the mom and her car its probably a car that needs a higher octane gas but she doesnt put it in...so it acted up...put what the recommended level of octane for your car...or its a waste of money...and i suppose some aftermarket mods like chips suggest putting higher octane in...so do it then...a higher level of octane gas wont turn your economy car into a race car...just remember that

Older cars with a fair amount of miles on them, may perform better with a higher octane gas because the motors have a decent amount of carbon build up.

Which could slightly raise the compression level, coupled with low octane gas. The car may ping, or run a bit sluggish.

So a higher octane, might help an older vehicle run smoother and a bit more efficient.

But like the concensus says, run what the car is designed for... or else it's a waste of money.

Re: does wut kinda gas u use matter?

dunno if it's the gas or pure luck, but my record on 87 octane is 320 miles before filling up again. my record on 93 is 355 miles...might be luck or the way i was driving both times...not really sure

Re: does wut kinda gas u use matter?

Turbo cars only use premium. And sometimes you dont get more ponys from fillin up on premium gas if the fuel compression ratio does not cut it. You will however, see cleaner fuel combustion

Re: does wut kinda gas u use matter?

Regardless of what your car calls for, if you run it on premium gas, its gonna run better. You have a higher octane, which equals SLIGHTLY more compression, which means a cleaner burn. This is why you get better fuel mileage on 93 then compared to 87, and this is also why you never here any pinging or rattling with 93.

My truck calls for Regular, but its never had anything but 93 octane, and it never pings or rattles, and it gets above 18 mpg (right now it has 288.6 miles on this tank of gas, and the fuel guage is showing about half a needle above 1/2 a tank. So basically, it would hold roughly 13-15 gallons of gas right now, and that woudl equal out somewhere between 19-22 mpg)

Re: does wut kinda gas u use matter?

no no no you guys are all wrong, on jbo.org we had a huge discussion about this and did tons of research. Heres what we found.

Higher octane fuel burns slower. Thats it. Its designed for cars with superchargers or turbo chargers where the compression is much higher. With a higher octane fuel it can with stand a higher compression before it combusts. Fuels like 89 octane will ignite much faster under compression than 93 octane. If you are boosted and only use 89 octane than you can get whats called detonation. Where the fuel ignites before the spark and can cause serious engine damage.

Higher octane does not produce any more HP than lower octane in cars designed for 89 octane. In fact it can actually lower the HP because it will now take longer to burn.

So if your car says to use 89 octane, then use 89 octane otherwise your just wasting cash and possibily hurting your performance.

dont believe me? read the link.

Actually, motors with forced induction generally have lower compression to fight of detonation.

The the force created by the supercharger/turbo setup acts like a high compression n/a setup cause you're cramming in large amounts of oxygen. Well, you get the idea.

But what you've said is pretty much correct, run what you're supposed to run. If it runs like crap on the recommended fuel, do a tune up and use some sorta fuel/oil treatment to clean up the combustion chamber of carbon build up.

If after all that, it still has problems on the recommended fuel. Then use the higher octanes.

Re: does wut kinda gas u use matter?

In premium fuel there are more detergents which cleen the motor out.

it is recomemded that in a new car to use premium every 3rd tank to clean out the engine this gives u better economy and a cleaner happier motor.

on older cars u should fill up with premium for the first 5 tanks then use it every second or third tank after that.

just keeps the motor happy

NO...that is what Bush and everyone at Exxon Mobil want you to think...it keeps them in business. Use what is recommended.

Re: does wut kinda gas u use matter?

higher octane fuel DOES NOTHING for a car that says to use 89 octane. It doesnt clean anything, doesnt add HP, doesnt improve gas milage, NOTHING!

Re: does wut kinda gas u use matter?

Truth be told, using high octane gas in a car made for lower octane can actually hurt it. Example->Back when Super Premium was 90 cents per gallon (Blood for oil my ass. If its blood for oil, how come Im paying 2 bucks for a gallon of gas), I filled up on high octane super premium. This was in a Rav4 that had never had anythgin other than low octane, as the service guy said that puting anything else in is a waste of money. I actually noticed my miliage go down with this. In a Hauyndai, dont even bother with anything other than the low, cheap stuff. Hell, I wish I could put in the low cheap stuff in my car.
