decisions decisions....
i am now completely certain that i am getting a audiobahn a8000t amplifier. at 2ohms it will be running at 800 watts and at 4ohms 400watts. in order to get 800 watts to two subwoofers, would i have to get 2 subs with 2ohm load, 2 subs with a 4ohm load, 2 subs with dual 2ohm voice coils, or 2 subs with dual 4ohm voice coils? and also how would i get 400 watts at 4 ohms(same questions)? wow thats alot of questions gimmy feedback. thanx.

Re: decisions decisions....
To run the amp at 2ohm, you would simply need the final impedence of the sub setup to be 2ohm. You can do this with 2 SVC 4ohm subs, or 2 DVC 2ohm subs.
To run the amp at 4ohm it's the same deal, but you would need 2 SVC 2ohm subs, or 2 DVC 4ohm subs.

Thats really interesting. so if i get 2 dvc 4ohm subs the amp will give both of my subs 400watts.
is this enough for the alpine type s im looking at that is 300w rms 900w max dvc 4ohm? or should i get the same type s with 300w rms 900w max dvc 2ohm giving both my subs 800watts? hit me back charmm |

Re: decisions decisions....
You sir are confused...
When you get 2 dvc 2ohm subs, you will wire them in series parallel yielding a 2 ohm load, which splits to each sub giving them an equal division of the watts, so 400 to each sub. When you wire it with 2 dvc 4ohm subs, you get a final load of 4ohms yiedling 200 watts to each speaker. Get DVC 2ohm subs.

What size sub(s) and how many? What type also?

Well, right now im getting 2 12" subs (Alpine Type-S DVC 2ohm like you suggested) and im building a box at the moment. The box is going to be...
Height - 13.5" Length - 35" Bottom Depth - 14" Top Depth - 7" The side will look something like.... ............._______ .........../...........| ........./.............| ......./...............| ...../__________.| (Ignore the periods hahahah) The Subs will be on the flat part. I figured out the inside cubic feet with 3/4" MDF to be ~.91 Cubic Feet for each side of the sub because it will be divided into 2 parts. the recommended cubic feet for a sealed box is .85 to 1.5 Cubic Feet The recommended for a Ported box is 1.24 2.0 cubic feet this is all the space that i have to spare but i was wondereng if there were tricks to make it bigger. (I heard of poly fill but i dont know anything about it or how it would affect my box size or where to get it) hit me back Charmm |

Re: decisions decisions....
since your box is too small for a port, you should get a passive radiator. that's basically a speaker without a motor assembly. so what you'll appear to have is 4 subs, but only two of them will be active and the other two works off of the pressure of the energized subs. tuning them is just a matter of adding weights.

Re: decisions decisions....
I wouldn't go with a passive radiator, but you can get one at adireaudio.com

Re: decisions decisions....
I would keep it sealed. Passive radiators are not very accurate
