well..i'm finbally laying my hands on a MKIII (gotta love'em!!!)
anyways, the guy is selling it because his wife overheated the engine....but since the MKIII have such reputation about BHG, i'm thinking most prolly it'll be the HG that has given away, the dude says it has a new cutch and is very welll maintained.... the quetsion is... i currently own a MKIII '88 N/A is there anything from the engne i would be able to use in case lets say...the head is bended? also, sinc ei'll be taking apart the engine...head-wise...any recommendations on what to do? of course, i'm getting the head to the shop and they'll straght it out.....but what else can i do....since the car has had only 2 owners and the first was an old lady..and the second was a guy who isn't actually into racing...i guess the cyl. and pistons aren't all that fucked up...i don't want to spend a shitload of money either, i'm on a very low budget as it is..... anyways, any advice would be good...also...i'm getting the turbo...and call me lame...because of the pssss sound...which is a good aftermarket BOV? (of course, turbo means more power) how do i know what psi is the turbo runing? thnx in advance...

first get at least a k&n filter for that bad boy, then buy a boost gauge and do a search for a tech site that will tell you how to install the gauge and how to run the lines. the greddy type s is a good bov but it wont make a whole lot of sound w/ only factory boost setting so id get a manual boost control as well and hook it up. you should be able to run 11psi.
later on when you get more money, a downpipe and catback exhaust and fmic and you should be able to safely run between 16-18psi on factory engine...but make sure you get a really good strong hg so you wont run the risk of blowing it running that kind of boost...and if you do run that high of boost...switch to synthetic oil unless its already been done...just incase.

Re: Getting my first turbo car ever...
FMIC? what is that....i'm guessing something to do with intercooler?
also, i'm getting a metal head gasket, since i don't wanna go cheap on that...also, even tho the car is 15 years old....is it possible to use synthetic isn'ty it gonna fry in the top?

Re: Getting my first turbo car ever...
Only downfall to the metal HG is you have to get the head machined and the block lapped. So look to spend a bit of money if you do get one.

if you are very, very lucky, like i was, u may not need to prep the surfaces of the block and head. i had a feeling the headgasket blew on my motor so i checked the oil cap constantly. The radiator light kept coming on even though i filled it like a few days ago. One day the cap had a light colored liquid on it, meaning coolant is getting into the oil. My engine never over heated, that is why the block and head was in so great shape. i just took it apart, scraped everything off, and put a new stock head gasket on. It worked for me; just take it apart and measure to see if the surface is bad or good.
