Winter Tires
I live in Alaska, and i need to buy some good winter tires. I was thinking about Wintermaster... but wanted other opinion. I need STUDDED TIRES. Please don't suggest all weather/ all season: i want and need studs. Suggestions much welcomed! Thanks in advance.

The best we have tested for ice traction in the stock size is the Bridgestone Winterdueler DMZ2. They provide better traction, braking, and cornering stability on ice than studded tires. They are also better for snow traction and are safer on dry pavement than studded tires. The newer multi-cell compound snow tires are a lot better than studded tires which is why most of the major tire makers are getting away from the studdables.

Re: Winter Tires
It looks like the Michelin tire did better than the Winterdueler on the result graphs... which one do you recommend??

Re: Winter Tires
The Michelin did better for handling, ride comfort, and noise in the dry but was not nearly as effective on the ice. The same has been true in our snow testing for traction. The Michelin would be fine if the roads are kept fairly clear for the most part but when it comes to snow and especally ice traction, the Winterdueler is the way to go.

Re: Winter Tires
Okay, that sounds pretty good. But one more question... did you do any tests comparing them to studded tires?? And if so, how did they compare?

Re: Winter Tires
Also, do you know anything about Pro Comp tires?? How do you think they would do in ice and snow??
