Speedometer not working

I have a 1992 Jeep Cherokee Larado and the speedomer and tripmeter have quit working. What could be the problem? Any help appreciated,

Pull and clean the connector (driver's side of the transfer case) and try it again. If it still doesn't work you may need a new sensor because the gear contacting the output shaft of the t-case shouldn't have moved on it's own.
