Thumbs up

I'm sorry to say, its part of the computer. Whatever tires your car came out of the factory with, have a speed rating. I believe "S" is 110 miles an hour. When your car hits that speed, the computer will retard spark, and cur down fuel.
You can power tune the engine, but presently there isn't a power scan tool for the Grand Am. Mustangs, Camaros etc. you can, sorry.

Hope this helps....

Re: speed govener

I also gotta add this seriously , the computer easily gets signals confused , it can act funny if any sensor is out , the default setting will take over even if the abs light comes on or if you use the hand brake alot.
Had to add that tid bit.

Re: speed govener

its useless tho , I never use its full capabilities cus its so damn illegal and dangerous. Thi higher shifting points was a nice touch but got used to it too quick and want more all the time

Re: speed govener

be careful, the governer is not just there for legal reasons. saftey too. The stock tires on a grand am are only considered safe up to 110mph, after tht you never know, also beyond the tires, the car may not be stable over tht speed check with pontiac/gm to get the specific details before you remove the govorner and take your car past 110, or else you might find yourself in a small wooden box buried underground.

Re: speed govener

I wish i didnt have the chip installed my car ran alot more predictable before. this chip sucks for street racing because the hp gains were puuuuny , just because the top speedlimiter has increased dont mean its safe (agrees with the others) however its up too you how you use it. Yes upgrade those tires , bfgoodrich tires can last 2-3 months for me , sigma tires lasted 3-4 months and the assuro's lasted me 14 months so far.
