Air baq question
Has anyone ever deactivated an air bag? Could I just pull a fuse or something? Or do I have to take it into a dealer?
The car in question is a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix. I am wondering because the driver, my sister, sits very close to the steering wheel and if the bag, god forbid, EVER inflates for whatever reason.......will you get the idea. So, I am asking all the smart people here for your knowledge on how to deactivate the drivers side air bag in her car.

On January 6, 1997, NHTSA issued a Federal Register notice proposing that all owners be permitted to have their driver and/or passenger air bags disabled if they are made aware of the consequences and sign an informed consent agreement. This proposal was open for comments through February 5, 1997. The agency will make a final decision on this proposal. A copy of this proposal can be found on the Internet (www.nhtsa.dot.gov) or if you provide your name and address, a copy will be mailed to you. Until that final decision is made, owners must follow the agency's current policy which is to grant exemptions in cases involving either a child in a rear-facing child seat who has a medical condition requiring close monitoring by the driver, or a vehicle that does not have any rear seat in which to install a child seat.

Re: Air baq question
Yes you can just pull the fuse, but they did have a recall on the air bags, the air bags where producing way too much power when they deployed - with could cause the bag to explode -which means if your air bag were to explode - you could have bits of plastic and metal shards flying throughout the car cabin. Which could lead to death or very serious injury - so man - if you havnt gotten the bag recall fix an the airbag module replaced for free by the deal then i would do it now cause the recall was in 2001 - they should have sent a notice - - we have a 99' that my girlfriend drives an i am very picky about her safty an how well kept an the conditions of her car are - so she is fine her car is up to date - an i would strongly recomend having the recall service done - dont wait for something bad to happen that you guys might regret.... -
