gear shift knob

i have a 99 alero. could anyone tell me how to remove the automatic gear shift knob?????????????????????????????

On the side closest to the dash there is a slot with a staple looking thing in it. Pull out the staple and pull up on the shifter.

HEY bud. i have a 2001 alero and took mine off buy bringing the shifter all the way back. in the front there is a horse shoe pin that pops right out with a small flat tip screw driver. its pretty simple my botton broke off and I just ordered a new nob.
