Unhappy Suspension problems

My Cavi's symptoms:

Left side front wheel has alot of noise, like something knocking, loose, or even described as grinding. Alot of vibrating as well. I'm told it may be in need of new cv joints and ball joints, Im also concerned that I may need new springs (coils)(??) What do you think or suggest it could be?

Thanks J

What about the stabilizer link (I think that's what it's called)? When that broke on mine it caused a lot of clunking noises.

Re: Suspension problems

Does it make noise all the time or just under certain conditions? Turning, braking? This info will help nail down the problem. But what you have been told sounds about right. Stabalizer link and bushings and king bolt bushings can cause these noises. Hub assemblies, strut mounts and coils very rarely need replacing from wear. The usually are replaced due to collision or pot hole damage and sometimes rust up north.

Thanks guys,

Atleast now I have an idea of what I may be dealing with. I have been in a couple of accidents that may have had a bigger impact on my car than I realized. I was rear ended in 2002, my wheels were turned to the right when I was hit and in 2001 I was hit on my driver's side-damn near forced into a curb so I know this was the beginning of my alignment being f'd up. The one in 2002 just messed up everything it seems. I also have this bad rattling, knocking noise I thought was a loose muffler but it seemed stable when I tried moving it by hand.

Thanks alot for the info. I'm sure I'll have more questions when I review the responses again.

J

Re: Suspension problems

Oh..I almost forgot this as well. The knocking/grinding noise happens normally when I first start the car and drive off...sometimes when I drive slow or hit a bump. The noise concerns me alot because it makes me think that somethings being stressed and may break or something.

Hey all, I just recently purchased a 2001 Cavalier and 98Chevycav, I know what you mean. I got the same weird knocking or grinding noice coming from the back. Does not happen all the time, but from time to time, specially when I take off really fast, or if the car sits for a longer time before drive. But as I said, some times though, some times this will come around even on bumps. Some times on a right tight turn. Anyways,

I just though I would put my few words in this, hopefully someone will help both of us out, and fix this problem before ............. we're just not gonna mention that one
