Will too much oil cause the engine to knock?

my engine on my step dads fire bird is knocking... and we where messing around with it and when we checked the oil it lookedto be 2 or 3 qrts too high... would that be the problem??

No, 3 quarts will not cause the engine to knock. Depending on the engine and oil pan size most engines will run with that much over. Some if over filled simply will not start. Having that much over in oil will only cause the oil pressure to build so high that you will start to blow seal through out your engine, thus needing the engine to be pulled out and torn down. Might as well rebuild it since you are doing that.

Too much oil will make the engine sounds like knock, the Rod Journals hit the oil and making knocking sound, not to mention the fact that it will making air pockets (bubbles) in your bushings and cause the engine to Overheat.
