best way to title jdm cars?
I live in Texas and I was wondering the best (most legal) way of getting a title for a car that's 100% JDM parts. I have heard of a not so legal way but I would like to go legit as possible.
I work at home so I don't do a lot of commuting. Actually right now I hardley drive at all. I'm not all saturated in the scene nor do I go to street races and such. This car is for my own pure enjoyment. Are other states easier than some to get titles for imported cars? I was thinking about getting some sort of show/custom car title but I'm not sure how that process works. ANY HELP is appreciated. For now I'm gonna just gonna drive on temp tags. please respond by email [email protected] I'll try to check back here as well. |

Re: best way to title jdm cars?
i'm wondering if you drive it less then 5000 miles a year maybe you can get like a specil title for it like old hot rods with no safty things or exhausts do that would be legit but I know how to do it unlegitly only downside is the whole impounding of car jail time factor so i wont waste time explaining how to do that.

yea I think I know the illegitiment way to do it, but I'd rather not. I mean if it comes down to it I'll do what I gotta do.

Re: best way to title jdm cars?
well the problem is, to make a JDM car road legal in the US, alot of stuff needs to be altered, such things include the glass, the bumper reinforcements and the emissions controls. find the list of the things required in your state to have a legal car from another country.

Re: best way to title jdm cars?
Look at what they have to do to a Skyline to make it DOT/EPA approved. Not worth it. I think the rule is that you can have it here for 1 year without being legal, but you can't drive it on US streets, and then it has to either leave the country or be crushed.

Re: best way to title jdm cars?
Yes I know that. But legally it's still the same situation. The rule is that a car can be imported if it is similar to a vehicle sold in the US. The problem is that the DOT says if the car is RHD it's not similar. Go check out the Nissan Skyline forums for more legal crap.
