I don't get it, not that I find anything wrong with them getting married in the first place, but if you really wanted to tie the knot as they say and get married, then why break up 5 days later. WTF, were they really in love to marry in the first place? Maybe they are doing it to set a precedent, who knows, but I find it weird that they split 5 days later.

You know, though I can't honestly say as that I understand the motives behind it, I'm nonetheless for same-sex marriage, as I feel the right to enter into a union of matrimony should be an equal system. Just because someone is gay, doesn't mean they should be denied the right to marry another. I don't feel it would lead to dumb things like marriage between a person and animal, or marriage between multiple people, (as the law states it is a union of TWO PEOPLE.) Assumptions like that are simply unfounded. This being said, I have one pet-peeve when it comes to the marriage issue between two people: divorce. Now, I'm NOT a religious person, but I DO feel that marriage is a very important thing -- and yet society seems to revel in shitting all over it. If one examines the statistics decade by decade, an alarming trend occurs in which the number of divorces begins to quichly multiply, generally beginning in the 1960's, increasing into the 70's, spiralling out of control into the 80's, and becoming a downright epidemic into the 90's through to today. There's a hundred things I could blame (increasing stress, more lifestyle options, greater focus on career, less time for children etc.) and yet I still don;t see an answer to it all. I hate divorce -- my parents are divorced, my cousin's parents (my mother's sister and my uncle) are divorced, my other uncle (mother's brother) divorced, nearly every one of my friends parents are divorced (I have to stop and think when it comes to pointing out one without divorced parents) and I'm sure it's the way with a lot of other people here. Chaser29 is right, Generation X really doesn't give a shit, and it seems like increasing numbers of their parents don't either (look at the numbers of divorced 50+ year old's.)

Anyways, this first divorce after 5 days makes me sick, especially since they were most likely setting a precedent. I have no problem with gay marriage, but what I DO have a problem with, is the activist gays trying to RAM their agenda down everyone else's throat. One look at these idiots like Rosie O'Donnell, or this newly divorced Canadian couple proves my point.

But what the hell, why should society care about things like skyrocketing divorce rates, the plague that is obesity (don't even get me started on fat people,) an anemic rate in respect to people who still read books, lazy TV raised children, and all sorts of other nasties that have crept up on us. Why should society care, I mean, after all, these things all make for great entertainment, don't they?

I blame the media, a lazy, dumb, woefully uninformed society, SUV's, diet fads, a paltry showing of commitment on the behalf of both parties in a marriage, and anything else that can be thrown out on the table. But there's nothing I can do about it.

Anyway, like I said, I agree if you were together for 5 years and everything was okay then decide to get married, thats fine and dandy, but why turn around in 5 days later get divorced on the grounds of seperation?

Remember: Marriage is the number one cause of divorce. Statistically, 100% of all divorces started with marriage

If you're married for less than a week - it's not going to be an issue....
But you're acting as though a straight couple could never adopt a child and then get a divorce. Which is rather silly.

What I'm saying is that gay couples that are unionfied will have difficulties adopting a child because of the "status" between them. Now when it comes to divorce, usually the mother gets custody of the child and the husband gets visitation rights, since this would be a different "relationship". What happens with that child?
